Seriously...she rocks!!!

I watch Grey's Anatomy every week (in the Netherlands I have to wait a while for the new season, but anyway). My favourite character on the show is Izzie Stevens. She's played by Katherine Heigl and she's seriously funny and heart warming. Especially that episode where Danny died. She was fantastic and she definitly deserved that Emmy she won. I also love her in "Knocked Up". I still have to watch "27 Dresses", is it any good? I hope that we will see her in a more serious movie. So Katherine Heigl..... she rocks!!!

A piece of (computer) art

I sometimes like to make my own wallpapers, for my desktop. This time I made one featuring Keira Knightley. Here's the result:

Movie Tip #8 - 21 Grams

Director: Alejandro González Iñárritu

Starring: Sean Penn, Naomi Watts, Benicio Del Toro, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Melissa Leo, Clea Duvall

Description: This is the story of three gentle persons: Paul Rivers (Penn) an ailing mathematician lovelessly married to an English emigré, Christina Peck (Watts), an upper-middle-class suburban housewife, happily married and mother of two little girls, and Jack Jordan (Del Toro), an ex-convict who has found in his Christian faith the strength to raise a family. They will be brought together by a terrible accident that will change their lives.

Review: In the beginning the story seems a little complicated (this director also made "Amores Perros" and "Babel") but in the end all the pieces come together. The performances of the actors are incredible and believable. Watts and Del Toro even got nominated for an Academy award in 2003. What is the movie's message? That people shouldn't be so quick to judge others? That could be one interpretation, but what's nice about the film is that it doesn't hammer this lesson into us. It just tells a moving and stirring tale about complex characters, and viewers can take from it what they please. It's definitly worth watching.

Movie Tip #7 - The 40 Year Old Virgin

Director: Judd Apatow

Starring: Steve Carell, Catherine Keener, Paul rudd, Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks, Leslie Mann, Jane Lynch

Description: Andy (Steve Carell) at the age of 40 still hasn't had sex. He lets his secret slip at a poker game with his buds from work. After the revealing all his friends are on a mission to help get him laid. Along the way Andy meets a nice mom: Trish (Catherine Keener) who fall head over heels for each other.

Review: Judd Apatow made a fantastic comedy with a very likeable leading man. I just love the way Apatow told the story about a 40- year old man who's still a virgin. He brought it with a lot of integrity though with a lot of humour. You just sympathize Andy and we have to thank Steve Carell for that. Some scenes are memorable, like the wax- scene (auch!!!). It's not hilarious, but the humour is very constant. And the Hair songs in the end are worth waiting for... Go see!

A new puzzle challenge

I know, jigsaw puzzles are a little dull and boring, but the ones that I make are everything but dull and boring. Have you ever heard of Jan van Haasteren? He makes the most incredible jigsaw puzzles. There's a lot going on in these drawings, so you have a lot to look at. That's the reason why these puzzles aren't boring. I allready have 21 of his puzzles and this is my newest:

A new challenge for me (1000 pieces), but I never failed in making a Jan van Haasteren puzzle. In this case it's the more people in the picture, the better...

Movie Tip #6 - There's Something About Mary

Director: Bobby Farrelly, Peter Farrelly

Starring: Cameron Diaz, Ben Stiller, Matt Dillon, Chris Elliot, Lee Evans

Description: Ted (Ben Stiller)was a geek in high school, who was going to go to the prom with one of the most popular girls in school, Mary (Cameron Diaz). The prom date never happened, because Ted had a very unusual accident. Thirteen years later he realizes he is still in love with Mary, so he hires a private investigator (Matt Dillon) to track her down. That investigator discovers too may so he falls in love with Mary and he gives Ted some false information to keep him away from her. But soon Ted finds himself back into Mary's life, as we watch one funny scene after another.

Review: This is my all-time favorite comedy. The Farrely brother made a one-of-a-kind movie with a lot of humour! Some scenes are legendary (like the hairgel scene and the one with the fishing lure). I can watch this movie over and over again and still laugh at the same jokes. It's hilarious and it has a lot of extraordinary characters. And it's Diaz at her best!

Joseph

Yesterday I went to see the musical "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" in a theatre in Heerlen (The Netherlands). I was really excited about it, because I'm a huge musical fan. My mom and I always save money for these events. In october there was a TV show where they were looking for the leading man for this musical. Freek Bartels (my personal favorite) won. But he didn't play the role of Joseph yesterday. Shame, but Hein Gerrits, who I once saw in a dutch version of "Grease" , was also wonderfull. "Joseph" is a swingin, colorfull, happy and funny show with a lot of different music styles. The best performance was by Renee van Wegberg, who played the narrator. What a voice!!! My mom and I enjoyed the show and we are allready looking forward to the next musical. Then you will read about it here!

SNOW

Finally, snow! It doesn't snow much in The Netherlands, so I was really happy when I looked out of my window monday morning. Especially my dog Tyson loved playing in the snow. Here are some pictures, made in my backyard:

We didn't have a white Christmas, but the year couldn't start better. And Tyson agrees with me on that, haha!

Movie Tip #5 - Hot Fuzz

Director: Edgar Wright

Starring: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Timothy Dalton, Bill Nighy, Steve Coogan, Martin Freeman, Jim Broadbent

Description: Jealous colleagues conspire to get a top London cop (Simon Pegg) transferred to a small town and paired with a witless new partner (Nick Frost). On the beat, the pair stumble upon a series of suspicious accidents and events.

Review: For the people who saw "Shaun of the Dead" and liked it, you will LOVE this one. It's typical Brittish humour and I'm a big fan of that. The duo Frost and Pegg is a match made in heaven and the jokes are very original and sometimes a little harsh (but that's the fun part ;) ). For people who need a laugh I can strongly advice you this comedy!

Happy New Year!!!

I want to wish everyone a very happy new year! Every year I try to make a list of things I want to achive in the new year. This is the list for 2009:
- Make time to read a good book;
- Spend more time with my friends;
- Don't get scared when new things enter my life;
- Don't care about what other people think of me;
- Love my family and friends!

I hope that in 2009 I will achive those goals and to everyone else with goals: believe in yourself!
