Review: How well do you know your spouse? In “Gone Girl”, the new movie by director David Fincher, that’s the main question.
Nick Dunne comes home for his fifth wedding anniversary, but something’s not right. His house shows signs of a struggle and his wife Amy is nowhere to be found. Nick calls the police and soon the case of his missing wife goes nationwide. Not long after the news gets out, people start pointing fingers in Nick’s direction.
Nick and Amy have an apparent perfect marriage, but flashbacks and Amy’s journal proof otherwise. The story has a lot of twists and turns. If you like a good murder mystery, this is your movie.
The casting is strong. I’m not a fan of Ben Affleck as an actor, but this movie made me change my mind. Affleck is so good in “Gone Girl”. But Rosamund Pike is the best of all the actors. She is normally cast for supporting roles, but she finally got the role she deserves. Pike shines in every scene. Tyler Perry surprised, because I didn’t think much of him being cast for this film. Maybe Neil Patrick Harris was miscast, but that’s just me nitpicking.
David Fincher is almost a synonym for quality. The cinematography is fantastic and his eye for detail is just sublime. “Gone Girl” is a great addition to his already impressive resume.
