Description: In Brooklyn, a youth from an Orthodox Jewish community is lured into becoming an Ecstasy dealer by his pal who has ties to an Israeli drug cartel
Review: Sam Gold is a young man whose life is run by his Orthodoc Hasidic Jewish upbringing. E lives at home, works with his father and will marry only the women he is set up with. This all changes when he accepts a job from Yosef. A free trip tp Amsterdam, he will carry Ecstasy through customs, when Sam thinks it’s medicine he is shipping. When Sam does find out, he quickly discovers the financial benfits.
The film is based on real events. The film’s setting is interesting, but fails to develop. There is a great story to be told, a Jew struggling with the abandonment of his family and faith in order to make good money. This is neglected and there is a love triangle in the middle of it. This isn’t as interesting as the story believes you to be.
“Holy Rollers” is mediocre.
