Review: After the success of the “Saw”-series, with its countless sequels, creators of the horror genre searched diligently for other ways to express their torture fantasy. They soon arrived at the popular phenomenon of the escape rooms, which brought us the 2019 film “Escape Room”. The ending left us with hints to a sequel, which we all knew was going to happen without or without the movie was good. The first film was entertaining enough to keep me silent for an hour and a half.

If you haven’t seen the first film, “Escape Room: Tournament of Champions” starts with a recap of the previous movie, which is kind of weird. It actually proofs how forgettable the first movie really is. We see one of the survivors, Zoey, who is talking to her psychiatrist and is struggling with the fact that nobody believes her story about the escape room she was tortured in and which almost cost her her life. Together with the other survivor, Ben, Zoey is determined to find the people behind these escape rooms and travel to the headquarters the think they have discovered.

When on a subway, the trouble starts all over again. The vehicle appears to be a new escape room and their fellow four passengers are other survivors of Minos, the company designing these rooms.

Where the main problem of the first film was pace, they are even moving faster here. Again the film looks good and the games designed are pretty awesome, the film becomes less and less credible by the minute. And the characters are even less interesting then the first film. And yet again, the ending of the film hints to another sequel. Which we probably will get, whether we like it or not.
