Title: The Last Thing He Told me
Series: -
Author: Laura Dave
Description: Before Owen Michaels disappears, he manages to
smuggle a note to his beloved wife of one year: Protect her. Despite her confusion
and fear, Hannah Hall knows exactly to whom the note refers: Owen’s daughter,
bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child. Bailey want absolutely
nothing to do with her new stepmother.
As Hannah’s increasingly desperate calls to Owen go unanswered; as the FBI
arrests Owen’s boss; as a US Marshal and FBI agent arrive at her Sausalito home
unannounced, Hannah quickly realizes her husband isn’t who he said he was. And
that Bailey just mat hold the key to figuring out Owen’s true identity. And why
he really disappeared.
Hannah and Bailey set out to discover the truth, together. But as they
start putting together the pieces of Owen’s past, they soon realize they are
also building a new future. One neither Hannah nor Bailey could have
anticipated.
Review: Hannah hall’s adoring husband, Owen Michaels, disappears on the same day
his company is raided by the FBI for large-scale security fraud. He leaves
behind a large duffel bag filled with money for his daughter Bailey. And for
his wife, Bailey’s stepmother, he leaves a note: Protect her.
Hannah wants to do so, but she also wants answers. And as she searches
for the truth about her missing husband, she realizes Owen isn’t who he said he
was.
First of all, this book is more a mystery than a thriller. It would fit
in the domestic thriller category, if I we would label it a thriller though.
The most interesting part is the search for the truth, where Hannah and Bailey
are trying to figure out what is happening. And the connection (or lack
thereof) between them. The book has some reveals. Not new to me tropes, but
they did it well. It’s a solid story, I enjoyed it, but it’s nothing
groundbreaking and it's not a book that stands out to me.
If you are new to the mystery/ thriller genre, I would recommend this to
you. It’s a good book to start with and get familiar with the genre.
