Netflix Friday - Volume 97

Some Netflix film tips for the weekend! And there is something for everyone, since I picked a movie for all the different genres.
 

Action: Bumblebee (2018)
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small California beach town. On the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, Charlie Watson (Hailee Steinfeld) discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken.
 

Drama: Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
The story of the legendary British rock bank Queen and lead singer Freddie Mercury (Rami Malek) leading up to their famous performance at Live Aid.
 

Comedy: Instant Family (2018)
A couple (Rose Byrne, Mark Wahlberg) find themselves in over their heads when tey foster three children.
 

Animation: Shrek the Third (2007)
Reluctantly designated as the heir of the land Far, Far Away, Shrek (Mike Myers) hatches a plan to install the rebellious Artie (Justin Timberlake) as the new king while Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) tries to fend off a coup d’état by the jilted Prince Charming (Rupert Everett).
 

Romance: Meskina (2021)
A Moroccan-Dutch single thirty-something (Maryam Hassouni) is seen as a ‘Meskina’ a (pity-case) by her family, who desperately want to couple her.
 

Horror: The First Purge (2018)
America’s third political party, the New Founding Fathers of America, comes to power and conducts an experiment: no laws for 12 hours on Staten Island. No one has to stay on the island, but $5,000 is given to anyone who does.
 

Science Fiction: The Adam Project (2022)
A time-traveling pilot (Ryan Reynolds) teams up with his younger self (Walker Scobell) and his late father (Mark Ruffalo) to come to terms with his past while saving the future.
 

Crime: Gone Girl (2014)
With his wife’s (Rosamund Pike) disappearance having become the focus of an inense media circus, a man (Ben Affleck) sees the spotlight turned on him when it’s suspected that he may not be innocent.
 

Thriller: A Cure for Wellness (2016)
An ambitious young executive (Dane DeHaan) is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from an idyllic but mysterious ‘wellness center’ at a remote location in the Swiss Alps, but soon suspects that the spa’s treatments are not what they seem.
 

Documentary: Winter On Fire (2015)
A documentary on the unrest in Ukraine during 2013 and 2014, as student demonstrations supporting European integration grew into a violent revolution calling for the resignation of President Viktor F. Yanukovich.
 

Family: Rescued by Ruby (2022)
Chasing his dream to join an elite K-9 unit, a state trooper (Dan Gustin) partners with a fellow underdog: clever but naughty shelter pup Ruby.

Animation: Storks (2016)

Top 5 Thursday: Movies I Watched For My Challenge (June 2017)

I know it's not Thursday, I'm a little late to the party. But I wanted this top 5 to go up. Here are my five favorite film that I watched for my challenge, for the month of June.

5. El Faro de las Orcas
A Netflix film I stumbled upon by accident. But I’m glad about that, because its’s a beautiful film. And since orcas are my favorite animals, it’s super special for me.

4. Split
I always stood by M. Night Shyamalan, even though he did make some stinkers. With “Split” he is finally back and proofs that he is an amazing director. James McAvoy is fabulous in his role and I loved the ending.

3. Wonder Woman
I always love a strong female lead, but when the characters is also physically strong, it’s double awesome. “Wonder Woman” is the film DC needed (and I needed).

2. A Cure for Wellness
The movie got mixed reviews, but I really loved it. It was already one of my most anticipated films of 2017 and it didn’t disappoint me. I don’t understand the hate for this movie, but the few people who love it as much as I did, I do get.

1. Annie Hall
When Woody Allen is on a roll, I love him. He directed and starred in “Annie Hall” and I loved everything about his film. And Alvy Singer, the character Allen plays, is basically me. I’m Alvy Singer’s long lost sister.

Top 5 Thursday: 2017 Movies I’m Looking Forward to

We are two months into the new year and a lot of great movies are ahead. And it looks promising. Here are the five films I’m looking forward to the most.

5. Kong: Skull Island
I really loved Peter Jackson’s “King Kong” and I enjoyed “Godzilla”. Gareth Edwards, who directed “Godzilla”, also firected “Kong: Skull Island” and that excited me the most. The trailer looks amazing and the cast is really good.

4. Beauty and the Beast
I have never been a fan of the Disney princess films, but “Beauty and the Beast” was different for me. When I was a kid, I was obsessed with this animated film and Belle was my hero. She was so far ahead of her time, intelligent, well read and kind hearted. When I finally saw the trailer for this live action film, my heart skipped a beat. It looks so good and so similar to the animation. I swear, if this film isn’t good I’m going to eat my shoe.

3. Logan
That trailer really got me, especially with the Johnny Cash song. It looks like a gritty and sober film and I’m seriously excited to see “Logan”. It looks better than all the other Wolverine spin-off movies.

2. A Cure For Wellness
It’s all so mysterious and creepy. It got my attention immediately. I really don’t want to know any details before I see the actual film.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
“Guardians of the Galaxy” was such a huge surprise and it ended up being my favorite film of that year. So clearly I’m super excited for the sequel. All of our favorite Marvel heroes return to fight the galaxy. The trailer showed us amazing spectacle, humor and again an awesome soundtrack. Oh, and baby Groot.
