Movie Battle: Captain America: The First Avenger Vs. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

This time I decided to go for two movies in a franchise. I love Marvel movies, they are really successful and this guy is my favorite superhero and Avenger. I’m talking about Captain America. Already two standalone movies, so Cap is fighting himself in this battle: “Captain America: The First Avenger” Vs. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”

 

 

ACTORS

Captain America: The First Avenger: Chris Evans is a good choice for Captain America aka Steve Rogers. A strong performer, but also a great action star. His chemistry with Hayley Atwell, as Agent Peggy Carter, was fantastic and her performance is also memorable. Tommy Lee Jones and Stanley Tucci have great supporting roles. Hugo Weaving is a believable villain, but Red Skull is a little bit underused.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier: Chris Evans is getting more comfortable in his role as Captain America. A bigger role for Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson. The best addition is Scarlett Johansson, as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow. The chemistry Evans had with Hayley Atwell in the first movie, he now has with Johansson. In a different way, but the two work well together. Robert Redford is also a good addition to the cast.

STORY

Captain America: The First Avenger: It’s the origin story of Steve Rogers becoming Captain America. I like the setting of the story and how it was executed.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier: The movie is this time set in modern times. The story has some surprising twists. This is a strongly written script.

EFFECTS

Captain America: The First Avenger: The movie looks stunning, with the 1940s as the movie’s background. The action scenes are fast paced and look good.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier: Again a fantastic looking movie. The action scenes look even better and are even faster, because of the modern look. And there was only a minimal use of CGI in this film, which makes it even more amazing that the film looks so good.

WINNER

Although I love “Captain America: The First Avenger”, probably more than most people, I choose the second movie in this franchise. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” was just slightly better.

I already had a crush on Chris Evans, but after this video I love him even more. The actor gave the 9-year old Kenny, who is very sick, the surprise of a life time. In the children's hospital where Kenny is, he was visited by Captain America himself. Okay, Chris Evans rules! Especially where Evans sees the kids were building a fort, it's so adorable!

 

 

Movie Tip # 49: Captain America: The First Avenger

Description: It is 1942, America has entered World War II, and sickly but determined Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is frustrated at being rejected yet again for military service. Everything changes when Dr. Erksine (Stanley Tucci) recruits him for the secret Project Rebirth. Proving his extraordinary courage, wits and conscience, Rogers undergoes the experiment and his weak body is suddenly enhanced into the maximum human potential. When Dr. Erksine is then immediately assassinated by an agent of Nazi Germany's head of its secret HYDRA research department, Johann Schmidt aka the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving), Rogers is left as a unique man who is initially misused as a propaganda mascot. Review: Let's just say that I'm not a big fan of superhero movies, with off course some exceptions. But I have to say that this is my favorite superhero movie. "Captain America: The First Avenger" is in many ways an old-fashioned movie, and I don't mean corny. It's old-fashioned entertainment, old-fashioned as in: why don't they make more movies like this? Most cinematic superheroes of today inhabit a universe where the heroes are full of shortcomings, including a large dose of cynicism. Steve Rogers has an innate goodness and he does anything in order to save humanity. Rogers is a very likeable man and Chris Evans does a fantastic job portraying him. I love Chris Evans. Great visual effects, which made Evans a very tiny and skinny man in the beginning. Because of the Vita-Rays, they made him the supersoldier he eventually became. The casting is by the way perfect, for every character. Hugo Weaving is a very convincing villain and is probably the strongest character in the film. I was impressed by Hayley Atwell, who played Rogers' love interest Peggy Carter. Evans has some very amusing scenes and lots of chemistry with Atwell. Strong supporting roles are there for Tucci as the moral anchor of the film and Tommy Lee Jones gets the most laughs as the no-nonsense Colonel Philips. I was really glad to be talked into seeing this movie, because it was very good and I enjoyed every bit of it. Now I have a new favorite superhero: Captain America rules!
