Movie Tip #30 - Shanghai Noon

Director: Tom Dey

Starring: Jackie Chan, Owen Wilson, Lucy Liu

Description: Chon Wang (Jackie Chan) is a clumsy Imperial Guard to the Emperor of China. When Princess Pei Pei (Lucy Liu) is kidnapped from the Forbidden City, Wang feels personally responsible and insists on joining the guards sent to rescue the Princess, who has been whisked away to the United States. In Nevada and hot on the trail of the kidnappers, Wang is separated from the group and soon finds himself an unlikely partner with Roy O'Bannon (Owen Wilson), a small time robber with delusions of grandeur. Together, the two forge onto one misadventure after another.

Review: The combo Chan - Wilson is great. Both funny in their own way. Chan physically and Owen jokes a lot. It's a good mix of humour and action. Western was never my favourite genre, but this one is an exception. Especially the scene where Chon and Roy are in the bathtub and play a drinking game. That's just hilarious. There's also a sequel. Not as funny as this one, but still worth watching.

Efteling

Yesterday me and my friends went to "De Efteling". It's an amusement park in The Netherlands. It's a fairytaleland, with magical rides and attractions. It has some great rollercoasters, like "De Vliegende Hollander" (The Flying Dutchman) and "Vogelrock" (Birdrock). Those are my favourites. One of the most beautifull rides is "Droomvlucht" (Dreamflight), a world full of fairies, elfs and troles. And the "Piranha" is a cool waterride. "Sprookjesbos" (Fairytale Forrest) is a walk-through attraction where they depict famous fairytales like "Cinderella", "Little Red Riding Hood" and "Sleeping Beauty". "The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats" is my favourite. It was a great day... I love amusement parks!
Here are some pictures I took. Maybe I can show you some more tomorrow.

Movie Tip #29 - West Side Story

Director: Jerome Robbins

Starring: Russ Tamblyn, George Chakiris, Richard Beymer, Natalie Wood

Description: Two warring New York City gangs- the white Jets led by Riff (Russ Tamblyn) and the Puerto Rican Sharks, led by Bernardo (George Chakiris). Their hatred escalates to a point where neither can coexist with any form of understanding. But when Riff's best friend (and former Jet) Tony (Richard Beymer) and Bernardo's younger sister Maria (Natalie Wood) meet at a dance, no one can do anything to stop their love. Maria and Tony begin meeting in secret, planning to run away. Then the Sharks and Jets plan a rumble under the highway - whoever wins gains control of the streets. Maria sends Tony to stop it, hoping it can end the violence.

Review: Every musical fan loves this movie. It's personally my favourite and most beloved musical ever. I haven't seen it in real life though. The story is a modern adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. The music is catchy and beautiful. "West Side Story" was best picture at the 1961 Academy Awards. My favourite song is "Maria". If your name is Maria, your a very lucky girl.... haha. For musical lovers it's a classic!

Day & Age

"The Killers" have a great album, Day & Age. Wonderfull. Off course we all know "Human" and "Spaceman", but it's more than that. The album opens with a great song: "Losing Touch". I liked it immediately, just like "This is Your Life". But my favourites are definitly "Dustland Fairytale" and "I Can't Stay". The album is very original and a lot of different songs are on it. I don't regret buying it. "The Killers" rock!!!!!

I'm looking forward to.....

On the moment there are a lot of movies in theatres that I would like to see. Because cinema's a pretty expensive, I'm really not planning to see all of those in the theatre. So I'll have to wait for the DVD. Here are some of the films I would want to see:
- Angels & Demons;
- The Proposal;
- Sunshine Cleaning;
- Terminator Salvation
So, I'm going to see one of them in the theatre. And for the rest of them, I will just have to wait a little while......

Prison (the final) Break

I saw the last episode of "Prison Break" this weekend. It's really sad that it had to end, I really loved that show. But I liked the final episode. Very exciting. I really tought Lincoln was going to die. He got shot and then his assumed mother Christina stuck her pump in his wound. That's not really nice is it. But Lincoln got to live (thank God). I really liked the fact that Sara shot Christina, because she sucked. Kellerman was actually the big hero of that episode, because he was the one that got them out and made them free men again. T-Bag going back to jail was also great. He's a weird and creepy man (alltough he seems very nice in real life). The last part of the episode was my favourite. Skipping four years we see what happened to all of them. Sara has a son, Michael; Lincoln and Sofia live together in Panama; LJ is back in school; Alex and Felicia are together; Sucre lives a happy life with his wife and daughter; T-Bag is in jail; Don Self is a vegetable. At the end we see Sara, Michael jr., Lincoln, Alex and Sucre standing in front of a grave; Michael Scofields grave..... Sad, but a very beautiful series ending. A great end to a great show. I'm gonna miss those guys.

Movie Tip #28 - Old School

Director: Todd Phillips

Starring: Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson, Ellen Pompeo, Jeremy Piven, Juliette Lewis, Leah Remini, Seann William Scott, Perry Reeves

Description: Mitch (Luke Wilson),Frank (Will Ferrell) and Beanie (Vince Vaughn) are disillusioned with their personal lives begining when Mitch's nymphomanic girlfriend cheats on him, then former party animal Frank gets married, but unwilling to get go of his wild life, and Beanie is a family man seeking to reclaim his wild and crazy youth. Beanie suggests that they form their own fraternity in Mitch's new house on a college campus to re-live their glory days by bringing together a variety of misfit college students, losers, middle-aged and elderly retirees as their new friends and later try to avoid being evicted by the new Dean of Students, whom still holds a personal grudge against all three of them.

Review: It's one of the funniest movies ever. The casting is great, they got a nomination for best on-screen team. Especially Will Ferrell is hilarious as Frank "The Tank" Ricard. Especially when he sings "Dust in the Wind" and the scene where he does gymnastics. But that guy makes me laugh when I just look at him. The story isn't all the complicated, but the way these actors work it is just extremely funny. Watch it and you'll see what I mean.

Turn, Turn, Turn

I just saw the "CSI" episode "Turn, Turn, Turn". It's a Nick centered episode and it's totally my favourite of this season. It's shot perfectly and it shows a lot of emotions. It's about a 16 year old girl, Haley, found death outside a motel where she lived. Then we go back a year and we witness some other cases that took place at that same motel. Haley is the constant factor in all those cases. We see how she changes and how Nick deals with her. When she is found dead, we see Nick struggle with it. Haley is played by singer Taylor Swift, great performance. Wonderfull episode and George Eads was great, especially in the end scene.

Dunst... still charming

I made a wallpaper featuring Kirsten Dunst. In a way she is a beautiful woman and a good actress. I loved her in "Crazy/ Beautiful", "Elisabethtown" and "Wimbledon". Allthough others might tell you differently, I think she has a certain charm. That's why I made this wallpaper. Here it is....

Movie Tip #27 - The Other Boleyn Girl

Director: Justin Chadwick

Starring: Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, Eric Bana, Kristin Scott Thomas, Juno Temple, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jim Sturgess, Eddie Redmayne

Description: Two beautiful sisters, Anne and Mary Boleyn (Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson), driven by their family's blind ambition, compete for the love of the handsome and passionate King Henry VIII (Eric Bana).

Review: The book, by Philippa Gregory, is beautiful. So is the film. It's an intriguing story, full of desires, betrayal, hatred and passion. The costumes are magnificent and the location is gorgeous. And then the acting. Natalie Portman gave away the best performance. As the jealous and vicious older sister she steals the show. She is a great actress, full of emotions. Especially her final scene is memorable. Scarlett Johansson gets better during the film. At the start she's a bit modest, but later in the film she shows a stronger more powerfull performance. Great film!

The Killers

I'm really into The Killers lately. They're a great band from Las Vegas, Nevada. They have their own sound, something that hasn't been done by another band. They are really unique. With singer Brandon Flowers, who has a very distinctive voice. I just love them. And the drummer looks a bit like that guy from "My Name is Earl", haha!. But anyway, here's my favourite song from The Killers (video from YouTube):

Movie Tip #26 - Jurassic Park

Director: Steven Spielberg

Starring: Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Richard Attenborough

Description: John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) has developed a dinosaur park using a DNA of a prehistoric dinosaur taken from an ancient insect. In a tour that Hammond makes to a selected audience which suppose to decide whether the park is safe or not safe for public, the security system collapsed, and the dinosaurs set themselves free. Now the selected audience, in the leadership of Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and include Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), Hammond's grandchildren, and some more has to survive in the Island.

Review: You've probably all seen this film, but why shouldn't I put it up here? It's a classic. No one will ever make a better movie about dinosaures. It's a visual treat, it's exciting and breath-taking! Everything about this movie is just great. From the characters to the visual effects and from the music to the action sequences. Master piece from Spielberg.
