Netflix Friday - Volume 85

Some Netflix film tips for the weekend! And there is something for everyone, since I picked a movie for all the different genres.
 
Action: 2 Guns (2013)
Two hardened criminals (Denzel Washington, Mark Wahlberg) get into trouble with the US border patrol after meeting with a Mexiacn drug lord, and then revelations start to unfold.
 
Drama: T2 Trainspotting (2017)
After 20 years abroad, Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) returns to Scotland and reunites with his odl friends Sick Boy (Johnny Lee Miller), Spud (Ewan Bremner) and Begbie (Robert Carlyle).
 
Comedy: Blockers (2018)
Three parents (John Cena, Leslie Mann, Ike Barinholtz) try to stop their daughter from losing their virginity on prom night.
 
Animation: The Lorax (2012)
A 12-year-old boy (Zac Efron) searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams (Taylor Swift). To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax (Danny DeVito), the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.
 
Romance: Love Actually (2003)
Follows the lives of eight very different couples in dealing with their love lives in various loosely interrelated tales all set during a frantic month before Christmas in London, England.
 
Horror: World War Z (2013)
Former United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) traverses the world in a race against time to stop a zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatens to destroy humanity itself.
 
Science Fiction: The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
Freedom fighters Neo (Keanu Reeves), Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) continue to lead the revolt against the Machine Army, unleashing their arsenal of extraordinary skills and weaponry against the systematic forces of repression and exploitation.
 
Crime: Thoroughbreads (2017)
Two upper-class teenage girls (Olivia Cooke, Anya Taylor-Joy) in suburban Connecticut rekindle their unlikely friendship after years of growing apart. Together, they hatch a plan to solve both of their problems, no matter what the cost.
 
Thriller: The Debt (2010)

Documentary: 14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible (2021)
Fearless Nepali mountaineer Nimsdai Purja embarks on a seemingly impossible quest to summit all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks in seven months.
 
Family: How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
On the outskirts of Whoville lives a green, revenge-seeking Grinch (Jim Carrey) who plans to ruin Christmas for all of the citizens of the town.

White House Down
Description: Capitol Policeman John Cale (Channing Tatum) has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service of protecting President James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx). Not wanting to let down his little girl with the news, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation's government falling into chaos and time running out, it's up to Cale to save the president, his daughter, and the country.

Before Midnight

Comment: I love the other two movies, so I'm sure I will like this one.

2 Guns
Description: For the past 12 months, DEA agent Bobby Trench (Denzel Washington) and U.S. naval intelligence officer Marcus Stigman (Mark Wahlberg) have been reluctantly attached at the hip. Working undercover as members of a narcotics syndicate, each man distrusts his partner as much as the criminals they have both been tasked to take down. When their attempt to infiltrate a Mexican drug cartel and recover millions goes haywire, Trench and Stigman are suddenly disavowed by their superiors. Now that everyone wants them in jail or in the ground, the only person they can count on is the other. Unfortunately for their pursuers, when good guys spend years pretending to be bad, they pick up a few tricks along the way.

Comment: Denzel Washington is almost always a garantue for an entertaining movie night.

Arthur Newman
Description: Wallace Avery (Colin Firth) hates his job. His ex-wife and son hate him, and he's blown his one shot at living his dream. Not wanting to face all this, he stages his own death and buys himself a new identity as Arthur Newman. However, Arthur's road trip towards anew life is interrupted by the arrival of the beautiful but fragile Mike (Emily Blunt), who is also trying to leave her past behind. Drawn to one another, these two damaged souls begin to connect as they break into empty homes and take on the identities of the absent owners: elderly newlyweds, a high-roller and his Russian lady, among others. Through this process, Arthur and Mike discover that what they love most about each other are the identities they left at home, and their real journey, that of healing, begins.

Comment: After watching this interesting trailer I can almost forgive Firth for stealing the Academy Award from James Franco.

The Wolverine
Description: Wolverine makes a voyage to modern-day Japan, where he encounters an enemy from his past that will impact on his future.
