Top 5 Thursday: Comedies from the 2000s

It’s time for the 2000s and this decades best comedies. Comedy is different here, but not bad at all. Here are my favorite laughs of the 2000s.

5. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
Not that popular when it came out, but it reached a cult status later on. It even got a sequel. That wasn’t as good, but “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” is hilarious. It’s silly, but maybe that’s why I like it so much.

4. The 40-Year Old Virgin
This movie put Steve Carrel on the map (beside “The Office” off course). His portrayal of virgin Andy is so endearing and you can’t help but like the guy.

3. Old School
Somehow Will Ferrell always makes me laugh, he is such a funny actor. And his character of Frank the Tank is the best thing about “Old School”. Him singing ‘Dust in the Wind’ or doing gymnastics, if that doesn’t make you laugh.

2. Shaun of the Dead
It’s a horror comedy and it’s hilarious. “You got red on you”. Edgar Wright directs and Simon Pegg and Nick Frost star in this amazing comedy. Can’t get enough of it.

1. Hot Fuzz
Off course this is my number one. I stated my love for this movie (and the trio Wright-Pegg-Frost) so many times. It’s actually in my top 10 of all-time favorite movies. It doesn’t get funnier than this.

Top 5 Thursday: Movies from 2004

Ten years ago now, I feels like just two. Some great films came out that year, here are my favorites.

5. Hotel Rwanda
A real beautiful film, which touches you and grabs you entirely.

4. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
Completely different from the number five, because this is one of the most ridiculously funny films I’ve ever seen. But when you let Will Ferrell play your lead character, you can expect that.

3. Million Dollar Baby
I looked like just another boxing movie, but there was a very dramatic twist. One of my favourite Clint Eastwood films.

2. Kill Bill Vol. 2
I like this part even better than the first, not a lot of people would agree. But I love this movie, it’s my favourite Tarantino directed film.

1. Shaun of the Dead
British humour is brilliant and this is a great horror comedy. If you don’t think it’s funny, you’re nuts! Ever since I saw this movie, I laugh every single time I hear “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen.

Top 5 Thursday: Will Ferrell Moments

Will Ferrell always makes me laugh and he doesn’t even have to make an effort. Here are my five favourite Will Ferrell moments.

5. Dust in the Wind (“Old School”)
When one of their fraternity brothers dies (he was very old you know), Frank the Tank decides to sing at the funeral.

4. Excting elf (“Elf”)
Buddy the Elf is a character you just simply can’t dislike. When he hears Santa is coming to town, he is overly excited.

3. On fire (“Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby”)
Ricky Bobby crashes during a race and he thinks he’s on fire. He has a breakdown and this is what he says: "Help me Jesus! Help me Jewish God! Help me Allah! Help me Tom Cruise! Tom Cruise, use your witchcraft on me to get the fire off me! Help me Oprah Winfrey!"

2. Glass case of emotions (“Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy”)
Another breakdown, this time it’s as Ron Burgundy. After his dog died, he calls up his friend and he tells him he’s in a glass case of emotions. You really have to see this to know it’s funny.

1. Doing gymnastics (“Old School”)
In order to get his fraternity to win, all the guys have to participate in a sport. Frank does gymnastics, with a ribbon. It’s freakin’ hilarious!

They Almost Made the Top 5: Bunk beds (“Step Brothers”), What is love? (“A Night at the Roxbury”)

Movie Moments: "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy"

I already spotlighted the characters once so now I'm sharing my favorite moments of "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" with you.

Moment # 1: Introduction
We meet Ron Burgendy and we see how he works. We come to the conclusion already that he’s not your typical anchorman. We also meet his newsteam, who tell us what they have to offer. The Channel 4 newsteam is a funky bunch.

Moments # 2: Ron meets Veronica
When Ron meets Veronica, he tells her she has an absolutely breath-taking heiney and that he wants to be friends with it. Ron starts bragging about how important he is and when he realizes he screwed up, he starts over. When he does, he tells her he wants to be on her. Smooth…

Moment # 3: Brick ate a candle
During their staff meeting, after the party, Brian and Champ tell the others what happened to them in the morning. Appearantly Brick ate a red candle.

Moment # 4: The toilet store
The Channel 4 newsteam meets up with the Evening news team and they starts insulting each others clothes. Brick asks them if they got their clothes at the toilet store.

Moment # 5: Party in my pants
Brick tries to invite Veronica to the pantsparty. He means the party in his pants, which Veronica doesn’t want to go to. Next he asks Ian the same question, which tells us Brick doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Moment # 6: Massive erection
Veronica and Ron are talking to each other when she tells Ron he has a massive erection. He says it’s an optical illusion, because of the pants.

Moment # 7: Ron plays jazzfluit
Ron’s friend Tino asks him to play the jazzfluit. Ron says he’s not prepared and than he pulls out the fluit from his jacket. The weirdest performance ever! But people actually give him a standing ovation.

Moment # 8: I love lamp
The newsteam is talking about love and what it means. Brick starts naming objects he loves, like “I love lamp”.

Moment # 9: Afternoon delight
In that same conversation, Ron tries to explain it and the newsteam starts singing “Afternoon Delight”.

Moment # 10: Glass cage of emotion
After an angry biker kicked his dog Baxter of a bridge, Ron calls Brian to tell him about it. He can’t really talk because he keeps crying. When Brian asks him where he is, Ron tells him he’s in a glass cage of emotions.

Moment # 11: The fight
The Channel 4 newsteam meets up with the Evening news team again. The Channel 2 news team, Public newsteam and Spanish language newsteam join them. They start a big fight with only one rule: No touching of the face and hair. They have all sorts of weapons. Brick even has a handgrenade. He’s just standing there with the grenade in his hand and all he does is scream. But Brick is eventually the only guy who actually kills someone.

Moment # 12: Ron vs. Veronica
Ron and Veronica start insulting each other. Ron calls her a silly pirate hooker and Veronica says he looks like a blueberry. When Veronica says he has stupid hair, he really gets angry. They start fighting each other.

Moment # 13: News team assemble
Ron gets a phonecall from his boss that they need him for the news again. He uses a seashell for a horn to call out for his newsteam and yells: “Newsteam assemble”! The team has been standing behind him all that time.

Favorite Moment: Moment # 11: The fight

In the Picture: The Characters from "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy"

This movie has a lot of haters but also a lot of fans. I'm such a fan. I think this is one of the most hilarious movies ever, with some of the weirdest characters imaginable. Here are the characters from "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy".

Ron Burgundy
Played by: Will Ferrell
Ron is a five time Emmy-Award winning journalist and the anchorman for KVWN Channel 4 news. He is a very confident man, maybe a little bit to confident. That makes him very ignorant, egotistical and narcissistic. Ron isn’t actually very aware of the news, because he just reads what’s on the teleprompter. He likes scotch, his dog Baxter and he’s very good at playing the jazzfluit.

Veronica Corningstone
Played by: Christina Applegate
Veronica is the first female to the news. She’s very ambitious to become an anchor and wants to be taken seriously by the men she works with. Eventhough she doesn’t get that respect, Veronica fights back and proves them she belongs in this world dominated by men.

Brian Fantana
Played by: Paul Rudd
Brian is the very stylisch and over-sexed field reporter for Channel 4 news. He is arrogant, narcissistic and he overestimates his personal qualities. Brian is also the proud owner of a very big cologne collection, which includes the scent “Sex Panther” (illegal in nine countries).

Champ Kind
Played by: David Koechner
Champ is the sportscaster and seems to have hidden feelings for Ron. He’s the most chauvenistic man in the team and is known for sexualy harassing co-workers.

Brick Tamland
Played by: Steve Carell
Brick is the weatherman and has the habit of sharing irrelevant informant, like that he ate a candle and the he loves lamp. He is goodhearted and loyal, but not very bright (he has an I.Q. of 48). Brick does have a darker side though. While in battle with other newsteams he shows his fighting skills and actually kills a man.
