Netflix Friday - Volume 34

Some Netflix film tips for the weekend! And there is something for everyone, since I picked a movie for all the different genres.
 

Action: The Hitman’s Bodyguard (2017)
The world’s top bodyguard (Ryan Reynolds) gets a new client, a hitman (Samuel L. Jackson) who must testify at the International Criminal Court. They must put their differences aside and work together to make it to the trial on time.
 

Drama: The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
A struggling salesman (Will Smith) takes custody of his son (Jaden Smith) as he’s poised to begin a life-changing professional career.
 

Comedy: Fun with Dick and Jane (2005)
When an affluent couple (Jim Carrey, Téa Leoni) lose all their money following a series of blunders, they turn to a life of crime to make ends meet.
 

Animation: Arthur Christmas (2011)
Santa’s (Jim Broadbent) clumsy son Arthur (James McAvoy) sets out on a mission with Grandsanta (Bill Nighy) to give out a present they misplaced to a young girl in less than two hours.
 

Romance: Letters to Juliet (2010)
Sophie )Amanda Seyfried) dreams of becoming a writer and travels to Verona, Italy where she meets the secretaries of Juliet.
 

Horror: The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)
A lawyer (Laura Linney) takes on a negligent homicide case involving a priest who performed an exorcism on a young girl (Jennifer Carpenter).
 

Science Fiction: Underworld (2003)
Selene (Kate Beckinsale), a vampire warrior, is entrenched in a conflict between vampires and werewolves, while falling in love with Michael (Scott Speedman), a human who is sought by werewolves for unknown reasons.
 

Crime: Layer Cake (2004)
A successful cocaine dealer (Daniel Craig) gets two tough assignments on the eve of his planned early retirement.
 

Thriller: The Mule (2018)
A ninety-year-old horticulturist and Korean War veteran (Clint Eastwood) turns drug mule for a Mexican cartel.
 

Documentary: Dark Tourist (2018)
From a nuclear lake to a haunted forest, New Zealand filmmaker and journalist David Farrier visits unusual and often macabre tourism spots around the world.

Family: Matilda (1996)
Story of a wonderful little girl (Mara Wilson), who happens to be a genius, and her wonderful teacher (Embeth Davidtz) vs. the worst parents ever (Rhea Perlman, Danny DeVito) and the worst school principal (Pam Ferris) imaginable

Young Adult
Description: Mavis Gary (Charlize Theron) is a writer of teen literature who returns to her small hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart (Patrick Wilson). When returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate (Patton Oswalt) who hasn't quite gotten over high school, either.

Comment: Finally a leading role for Charlize Theron again. I missed her. And I can't wait to see her shine in "Young Adult".

My Week with Marilyn
Description: In the early summer of 1956, 23 year-old Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne), just down from Oxford and determined to make his way in the film business, worked as a lowly assistant on the set of "The Prince and the Showgirl." The film that famously united Sir Laurence Olivier (Kenneth Branagh) and Marilyn Monroe (Michelle Williams), who was also on honeymoon with her new husband, the playwright Arthur Miller (Dougray Scott).
Nearly 40 years on, his diary account "The Prince, the Showgirl and Me" was published, but one week was missing and this was published some years later as "My Week with Marilyn". When Arthur Miller leaves England, the coast is clear for Colin to introduce Marilyn to some of the pleasures of British life; an idyllic week in which he escorted a Monroe desperate to get away from her retinue of Hollywood hangers-on and the pressures of work.

The Raven
Description: Edgar Allen Poe (John Cusack) joins forces with a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans) to hunt down a mad serial killer who's using Poe's own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders.

Comment: And also very happy to see John Cusack back in a leading role. Missed him too.

Arthur Christmas
Description: On Christmas night at the North Pole, Santa's youngest son Arthur (James McAvoy) looks to use his father's high-tech operation for an urgent mission.

Comment: Cute, I like a nice and heartwarming Christmas movie.

Another Happy Day
Description: On the eve of her estranged son's (Michael Nardelli) wedding, Lynn (Ellen Barkin), a woman who has always worn her emotions on her sleeve, must deal with her long-simmering feud with her ex-husband (Thomas Hayden Church) and his hot-tempered wife (Demi Moore), the disdain of her cold mother (Ellen Burstyn) and distant father (George Kennedy) and the ridicule of her ever-judgmental sisters. And the fact that she brings along her three deeply troubled children (Ezra Miller, Daniel Yelsky, Kate Bosworth) don't make things any easier for Lynn.
