Rewatching My 100 Favorite Movies - Update 26

I decided to rewatch my 100 favorite movies of all-time. What those are, you can check HERE. I watch them in random order, there is no rhyme or reason there, just watching those movies I love so much.
 

85/ 100: Paddington 2 (2017)
Movies that are truly fun for the whole family are rare, which is why the 2014 live-action film about the bear Paddington was such a pleasant surprise. Director Paul King turned it into an irresistibly cheerful adventure, beautifully designed and full of jokes. The sequel had those same ingredients, but just slightly better. If only because of the delightful supporting roles by Hugh Grant and Brendan Gleeson. Read my full review HERE.
 

86/ 100: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019)
Hollywood 1969. The classic movie star must slowly give away to a new type of actor. B-actor Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) is one such classic movie hero and is having a hard time. Why can’t he be as successful as his neighbor, actress Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie)? Fortunately, his friend and regular stuntman Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) continues to support him. 87/ 100: Hot Fuzz (2007)
Ominous things are happening in Sandford. The front gardens are too neat, the facades too clean. No hamlet can win Village of the Year three times in a row without unsavory practices behind it. Police officer Danny Butterman (Nick Frost) and his overambitious colleague Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) set out to investigate. This is one of the three films In the ‘Cornetto-trilogy”, directed by Edgar Wright. When all being on my 100 favorites list, this is my favorite of the three.”Hot Fuzz” is without a doubt the funniest movie ever made and proof that the British will always win comedy over Americans. Because the jokes are clever and masterful. Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are a magical trio that I wish will be making more movies in the future. Read my full review HERE.
 

88/ 100: Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)
Curious culmination of animation and feature film technique. Boskins plays private detective Eddie Valiant. During an investigation, he stumbles upon the murder suspect, yet completely innocent cartoon Roger Rabbit. As a child, me and my family used to watch this film so many times. Most of the jokes went way over my head, because this is not a children’s movie. Now, as an adult, I enjoy this film on a whole other level and maybe even more than I used to. Netflix Friday - Volume 56

Some Netflix film tips for the weekend! And there is something for everyone, since I picked a movie for all the different genres.
 

Action: Midway (2019)
The story of the Battle of Midway, told by the leaders and the sailors who fought it.
 

Drama: The Judge (2014)
Big-city lawyer Hank Palmer (Robert Downey Jr.) returns to his childhood home where his father (Robert DuVall), the town’s judge, is suspected of murder. Hank sets out to discover the truth and, along the way, reconnects with his estranged family.
 

Comedy: Girl’s Trip (2017)
When four lifelong friends travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, sisterhoods are rekindled, wild sides are rediscovered and there’s enough dancing, drinking, brawling and romancing to make the Big Easy blush.
 

Animation: Over the Moon (2020)
A girl builds a rocket ship and blasts off, hoping to meet a mythical moon goddess.
 

Romance: The Age of Adeline (2015)
A young woman (Blake Lively), born at the turn of the 20^th century, is rendered ageless after an accident. After many solitary years, she meets a man (Michiel Huisman) who complicates the eternal life she has settled into.
 

Horror: Army of the Dead (2021)
Following a zombie outbreak in las Vegas, a group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.
 

Science Fiction: Dredd (2012)
In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop (Karl Urban) teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.
 

Crime: American made (2017)
The story of Barry Seal (Tom Cruise), an American pilot who became a drug-runner for CIA in the 1980s in a clandestine operation that would be exposed as the Iran-Contra Affair.
 

Thriller: Prisoners (2013)
When Keller Dover’s (Hugh Jackman) daughter and her friend go missing, he takes matters into his own hands as the police pursue multiple leads and the pressure mounts.
 

Documentary: Nail Bomber: Manhunt (2021)
This documentary tells the story of the 1999 London bombings that targeted minority communities, and the race to find the far-right extremist behind them.
 

Family: Paddington 2 (2017)
Paddington (ben Wishaw), now happily settled with the Brown family and a popular member of the local community, picks up  a series of off jobs to buy the perfect present for his Aunt Lucy’s 100^th birthday, only for the gift to be stolen.

Review: The British have a thing for bears, at least when it comes to children’s literature. Pooh, Rupert, SuperTed, Baloo. And they also have a special place for Paddington, with his signature red hat and blue coat. The first film, I liked very much. It was loveable and heartwarming. But “Paddington 2” I absolutely love and is even more loveable and heartwarming!!!
Paddington lives a happy life with the Brown family and puts a smile on all his neighbor’s faces. His wish is to find the perfect gift for his aunt Lucy, who lives in South America. Because aunt Lucy also dreams of a trip to London, Paddington finds an antique pop-up book about the British capitol. He gets a job to earn money to buy this gift.
If you don’t like this movie, you seriously suck! It’s only the British that can manage to add so much humor and warmth to a film like this. There is a good mix of adventure, tension, slapstick humor and tenderness. Even the extreme situation of Paddington going to jail, is brought to us with warmth and heart. Paddington is an example for us, he stays polite in every situation, without being annoying or sugar sweet.
Hugh Grant plays the villain in this second film. He is a egotistical, self-loving actor, who has his eyes on the same book as Paddington. But for other reasons. And Grant is really solid as the bad guy.
You don’t have to be a kid to love this film. “Paddington 2” puts an instant smile on your face. I love this film!
