Netflix Friday - Volume 98

Some Netflix film tips for the weekend! And there is something for everyone, since I picked a movie for all the different genres.
 

Action: Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard (2021)
The bodyguard, Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds), continues his friendship with assassin, Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson), as they try to save Darius’ wife Sonia.
 

Drama: Big Fish (2003)
A frustrated son (Billy Crudup) tries to determine the fact from fiction in his dying father’s (Albert Finney) life.
 

Comedy: American Pie 2 (2001)
Jim (Jason Biggs) and his friends are now in college, and they decide to meet up at the beach house for some fun.
 

Animation: The Wind Rises (2013)
A look at the life of Jiro Horikoshi, the man who designed Japanese fighter planes during World War II.
 

Romance: Life as We Know It (2010)
Two single adults (Katherine Heigl, Josh Duhamel) become caregivers to an orphaned girl when their mutual best friends die in an accident.
 

Horror: The Unholy (2021)
A hearing-impaired girl is visited by the Virgin Mary and can suddenly hear, speak and heal the sick. As people flock to witness her miracle, terrifying events unfold. Are they the work of the Virgin Mary or something much more sinister?
 

Science Fiction: The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
After Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) is bitten by a genetically altered spider, he gains newfound, spider-like powers and ventures out to save the city from the machinations of a mysterious reptile foe (Rhys Ifans).
 

Crime: The Town (2010)
A proficient group of thieves rob a bank and hold Claire (Rebecca Hall), the assistant manager, hostage. Things begin to get complicated when one of the crew members (Ben Affleck) falls in love with Claire.
 

Thriller: 1922 (2017)
A simple yet proud farmer (Thomas Jane) in the year 1922 conspires to murder his wife for financial gain, convincing his teenage son to assist. But their actions have unintended consequences.
 

Documentary: Bad Vegan: Fame. Fraud. Fugitives (2022)
After marrying a mysterious man who claimed he could make her dog immortal, a celebrated vegan restauranteur finds her life veering off the rails.
 

Family: The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (2019)
Against all the odds, a thirteen-year-old boy in Malawi invents an unconventional way to save his family and village from famine.

In 1985, electrician and hustler Ron Woodroof (Matthew McConaughey) works around the system to help AIDS patients get the medication they need after he is diagnosed with the disease.
 

Comedy: Monty Python’s Life of Brian (1979)
Born on the original Christmas in the stable next door to Jesus Christ, Brian of Nazareth (Graham Chapman) spends his life being mistaken for a messiah.
 

Animation: The Secret Life of Pets (2016)
The quiet life of a terrier named Max (Louis C.K.) is upended when his owner takes in Duke (Eric Stonestreet), a stray whom Max instantly dislikes.
 

Romance: Blinded By the Light (2019)
In England in 1987, a teenager from an Asian family learns to live his life, understand his family and find his own voice through the music of American rock star Bruce Springsteen.
 

Horror: Case 39 (2009)
A social worker (Renee Zellweger) finds to save a girl from her abusive parents, only to discover that the situation is more dangerous than she ever expected.

Documentary: Memories of a Murderer: The Nilsen Tapes (2021)
Serial killer Dennis Nilsen narrates his life and horrific crimes via a series of chilling audiotapes recorded from his jail cell.
 

Family: Mr. Bean’s Holiday (2007)
Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) wins a trip to Cannes where he unwittingly separates a young boy from his father and must help the two reunite. On the way he discovers France, bicycling and true love. 

Top 5 Thursday: Movie Posters 2012

Like last year I summed up the best movie posters of the year. Again I had the choice between some wonderful, creative and original posters. So here they are. I haven't seen any of the movies on this list yet.

5. Big Miracle
As a nature lover and a slight preference for whales, I just had to choose this poster.

4. Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter
I like the dark and mysterious look. It fits this movie perfectly.

3. Frankenweenie
I always like these kind of posters. Looks like concept art. The etchy form really speaks to me.

2. The Cabin in the Woods
This poster reminded me of Escher, his drawings have a similar style. It looks so good, there are so many things to look at in this poster.

This poster captures it all. It's perfect and this really amazed me when I first saw it. Great poster.

Movie Trailer Sunday (24)

This weeks trailers are about a CIA operative, the end of the world, Spider-Man, a bride and a Frenck kid abandoned by his dad.

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World

Comment: I love both Steve and Keira. I would never made this combo, but maybe that's what appeals to me.

The Amazing Spider-Man
Description: We follow Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). The Decoy Bride

Comment: While watching this trailer I realized this movie came out in 2011, but to me it was new.

The Kid with a Bike
Description: Abandoned by his father, a young boy (Thomas Doret) is left in a state-run youth farm. In a random act of kindness, the town hairdresser (Cécile de France) agrees to foster him on weekends.
