Netflix Friday - Volume 36

Some Netflix film tips for the weekend! And there is something for everyone, since I picked a movie for all the different genres.
 

Action: Spider-Man Far From Home (2019)

Drama: The Age of Innocence (1993)

Comedy: Role Models (2008)
Wild behavior forces a pair of energy drinking reps (Seann William Scott, Paul Rudd) to enroll in a Big Brother program.
 

Animation: The Twelve Tasks of Asterix (1976)
A group of indomitable Gauls are challenged by Roman Emperor Julius Caesar to accomplish twelve impossible tasks.
 

Romance: Wimbledon (2004)
A pro tennis player (Paul Bettany) has lost his ambition and has fallen in rank 119. Fortunately for him, he meets a young player (Kirsten Dunst) on the women’s circuit who helps him recapture his focus for Wimbledon.
 

Horror: Get Out (2017)
A young African-American (Daniel Kaluuya) visits his white girlfriend (Allison Williams) parents (Bradley Whitford, Catherine Keener) for the weekend, where his simmering uneasiness about their reception of him eventually reaches a boiling point.
 

Science Fiction: Twelve Monkeys (1995)
In a future world devastated by disease, a convict (Bruce Willis) is sent back in time to gather information about the mand-made virus that wiped out most of the human population on the planet.
 

Crime: The Highwaymen (2019)
The untold true story of the legendary detectives (Kevin Costner, Woody Harrelson) who brought down Bonnie and Clyde.
 

Thriller: Inside Man (2006)
A police detective (Denzel Washington), a bank robber (Clive Owen) and a high-power broker (Jodie Foster) enter high-stakes negotiations after the criminal’s brilliant heist spirals into a hostage situation.
 

Documentary: Night On Earth (2020)

Some Netflix film tips for the weekend! And there is something for everyone, since I picked a movie for all the different genres.

Action: Inception (2010)
A thief (Leonardo DiCaprio) who steals corporate secrets through the use of dream-sharing technology is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a C.E.O.

Drama: The Iceman (2012)
The story of Richard Kuklinski (Michael Shannon), the notorious contract killer and family man. When finally arrested in 1986, neither his wife nor daughter had any clue about his real profession.

Comedy: The Disaster Artist (2017)
When Greg Sestero (Dave Franco), an aspiring film actor, meets the weird and mysterious Tommy Wiseau (James Franco) in an acting class, they form a unique friendship and travel to Hollywood to make their dreams come true.

Animation: Ponyo (2008)
A five-year-old boy develops a relationship with Ponyo, a young goldfish princess who longs to become human after falling in love with him.

Romance: Juliet, Naked (2018)
Annie (Rose Byrne) is the long-suffering girlfriend of Duncan (Chris O’Dowd) who is obsessed with now faded singer-songwriter Tucker Crowe (Ethan Hawke). She finds herself in an unlikely transatlantic romance with Tucker.

Horror: The Mist (2007)
A freak storm unleashes a species of bloodthirsty creatures on a small town, where a small band of citizens hole up in a supermarket and fight for their lives.

Science Fiction: I Am Legend (2007)
Years after a plague kills most of humanity and transforms the rest into monsters, the sole survivor in New York City (Will Smith) struggles valiantly to find a cure.

Crime: The Highwaymen (2019)

Thriller: El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019)
“El Camino: A Breakin Bad Movie” follows fugitive Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) as he runs from his captors, the law and his past.

Documentary: 13th (2016)
An in-depth look at the prison system in the United Stated and how it reveals the nation’s history of racial inequality.

Family: Paddington (2014)
A young Peruvian bear (Ben Wishaw) travels to London in search of a home. Finding imself lost and alone at Paddington Station, he meets the kindly Brown family, who offer him a temporary haven.

Movie Reviews - The Highwaymen

Description: A pair of Texas Rangers (Kevin Costner, Woody Harrelson) come out of retirement to catch the infamous outlaws Bonnie and Clyde.

Review: Former Texas Rangers Frank Hamer and Benjamin Maney Gault return from retirement to end the criminal duo Bonnie and Clyde.
Director John Lee Hancock has some historical dramas on his resumé, like “Saving Mr. Banks” and “The Founder”. In “The Highwaymen” he went into a different direction. It’s the tale of two heroes hunting for the world’s most infamous criminal duo.
The film’s strength is its depiction of the 1930s. Hamer and Gault are trying to fight their way though the country where, due to the economic crisis, the citizens have become more fond of murdering outlaws than the actual law.
How both characters respond to everything around them is very different. In this contrast we see the true characters.
“The Highwaymen” is not an action/ chase movie. Its power is set in the silent moments, where Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson get the chance to translate the historical story into words, facial expressions and motion. Both actors are definite favorites of mine and are excellent in this film.
We are actually missing Bonnie and Clyde here, but it was a conscious choise of Hancock to give them almost no screen time. The consequences of their actions, the search for them and the men hunting them are the focus of the story. And this makes “The Highwaymen” into a melancholic film experience.
