Netflix Friday - Volume 88

Some Netflix film tips for the weekend! And there is something for everyone, since I picked a movie for all the different genres.
 

Action: The Revenant (2015)

Drama: The Lost Daughter (2021)
A woman’s (Olivia Colman) beach vacation takes a dark turn when she begins to confront the troubles of her past.
 

Comedy: Superbad (2007)
Two co-dependent high school seniors are forced to deal with separation anxiety after their plan to stage a booze-soaked party goes awry.
 

Animation: The House (2022)
Across different eras, a poor family, an anxious developer and a fed-up landlady become tied to the same mysterious house in this animated dark comedy.
 

Romance: Notting Hill (1999)
The life of a simple bookshop owner (Hugh Grant) changes when he meets the most famous film star (Julia Roberts) in the world.
 

Horror: Don’t Breathe (2016)
Hoping to walk away with a massive fortune a trio of thieves break into the house of a blind man (Stephen Lang) who isn’t as helpless as he seems.
 

Science Fiction: Inception (2012)
A thief (Leonardo DiCaprio) who steals corporate secrets through the use of dream-sharing technology is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a C.E.O., but his tragic past may doom the project and his team to disaster.
 

Crime: Inglorious Basterds (2009)
A Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a plan to assassinate Nazi leaders by a group of Jewish U.S. soldiers coincide with a theater owner’s vengeful plans for the same.
 

Thriller: Six Minutes to Midnight (2020)
UK, August 15^, 1939: 17 days before WWII, an English teacher and his camera disappear on a coastal boarding school with 20 German teen girls. Miller (Eddie Izzard) gets the job 6 days later, secretly trying to find out what happened.
 

Documentary: The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story (2019)
A documentary on how Adam Lambert took over from the legendary Freddie Mercury as the frontman for the rock group Queen.
 
 

Family: Enola Holmes (2020)
When Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown), Sherlock’s (Henry Cavill) teen sister, discovers her mother missing, she gets off to find her, becoming a super-sleuth in her own right as she outwits her famous brother and unravels a dangerous conspiracy around a mysterious young Lord.

Family: Paddington (2014)

Top 5 Thursday: Movies You Need to Watch in Theaters

I always love going to the theater, but I always choose films that will probably add something extra to the film when watching it on such a big screen. Some movies are just better in theaters, because of the effects, cinematography or the whole experience. Here are my five picks for movies you need to watch in the theater.

5. Avatar
I was stupid enough to not see this in theaters and I regret it to this day. It is such a visually beautiful movie, even on television. So how about on the big screen? It will blow my mind.

4. The Revenant
The story might not be that special, but the cinematography is reason enough for me to watch this. I saw it in theaters and it took my breath away. I wish I made this movie!

3. Inception
This movie looks amazing, what a visual masterpiece. And it’s most impressive on the big screen.

2. Mad Max: Fury Road
This film is one giant adrenaline rush and it really has a great impact when you watch it in theaters. Action in its purest form.

1. Jurassic Park
Probably one of the most jaw-dropping movies I’ve ever seen. And it still amazes me how fantastic and breathtaking this movie is. And on the big screen it’s even more beautiful. It’s one of my all-time favorites.

Marry, Kiss, Cliff - Round 10

Round 10: Mark Zuckerberg (“The Social Network”), Luke Skywalker (“Star Wars”) and Dom Cobb (“Inception”)

Marry: I don’t really want to marry any of them. One is a douche, one has daddy issues and one has wife issues. I would have to go with Luke Skywalker, he at least has the force. And he knows Yoda, who is super awesome!

Kiss: Dom Cobb has a strange job and he never got over the death of his wife. Just a quick kiss and then run away even faster.

Cliff: I know Mark Zuckerberg is probably the most normal person of the three, but he’s kind of a douchebag. I know he’s loaded, but I don’t want to be with a rich douche.

Top 5 Thursday: Movies from 2010

Let’s see what movies 2010 brought us. It’s seems not that long ago, but it’s already 4 years ago! Time flies. A big list of films, only a few I can pick. Here are my favourites of 2012.

5. Black Swan

A thriller that is getting close to horror, because it’s really freaking scary. And Natalie Portman is so good in this movie. “Black Swan” is disturbing, yet one of the best movies of 2010.

 

 

4. Inception

This blew my mind when I saw it in theatres. What great visuals and that music… djeez… Fantastic movie.

 

 

3. Easy A

The movie that made me love Emma Stone. “Easy A” may sound like an average teen comedy, but it’s so much more. The lead characters is actually likeable and very intelligent.

 

 

2. Toy Story 3

This is the best in the series. It made ma both laugh and cry, and that fire scene was actually really scary and disturbing coming to think of it. It could’ve traumatized millions of children. But “Toy Story 3” is a great adventure and it’s a wonderful Pixar film.

 

 

1. 127 Hours

This is definitely the movie with the best performance of 2010 (and not Colin Firth!!!). James Franco is amazing in “127 Hours” and you really feel adrenaline rushing through your blood during its entire runtime.

In the Picture: The Characters from "Inception"

"Inception" blew my mind when I first saw it. Such a visual treat! That and its story are the most interesting parts of the film, but their characters are also worth looking in to. Here they are.

Dom Cobb
Played by: Leonardo DiCaprio
Cobb is “The Extractor” and is a master in the art of extraction. That means he infiltrates dreams and steals valuable information from them. He is a wanted man, because they think he killed his wife. Cobb doesn’t design dreams anymore, because his late wife appears in those dreams.

Arthur
Played by: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Arthur is Cobb’s right-hand and is also called “The Point Man”. He takes care of the details, does the research and makes sure everything goes according to plan. Arthur finds his job fascinating and he is very organized, but can also be very skeptical. Cobb can always rely on him.

Ariadne
Played by: Ellen Page
Ariadne is a college graduate student and hired by Cobb as “The Architect”. She manufactures the world of the dreams. Although Ariadne sees the danger of the job, her curiousity won. She was unable to pull away from an unique opportunity like this. Ariadne is extremely creative and a fast learner.

Eames
Played by: Tom Hardy
Eames is “The Forger”. He can project the image of anyone. Eames is a smooth talker and somewhat of a prankster. There is a friendly rivalry between him and Arthur. Eames is interested in finding out what people keep locked in their minds.

Saito
Played by: Ken Watanabe
Saito is known as “The Tourist”. He is a powerfull and wealthy business man. He offers Cobb the job with a valuable reward. Saito accompanies Cobb and his team on the job he hired them to do and he comes in handy.

Yusuf
Played by: Dileep Rao
Yusuf is “The Chemist” and helps the team to find the perfect sedative that gets them to the dreamworld. He maintains a cool and collected attitude when within his own comfort zone, but he has the least experience in shared dreaming.

Robert Fisher
Played by: Cillian Murphy
Robert Fisher is known as “The Mark” and the main target of Cobb and his team. His father is on his death bed and he never had a close relationship with him. Robert is very rich and he can be very calm in stressed situations.

Mal
Played by: Marion Cotillard
Mal is Cobb’s late wife and she’s know as “The Shade”. Mal killed herself after believing her dreamworld was reality. She is frequently seen in Cobb's dreams as a projection of his subconscious.

Favorite Character: Arthur
