Netflix Friday - Volume 9

Some Netflix film tips for the weekend! And there is something for everyone, since I picked a movie for all the different genres.

Action: The Meg (2018)
A group of scientists exploring the Marianas Trench encounter the largest marine predator that has ever existed: the Megalodon.

Drama: The Impossible (2012)
The story of a tourist family in Thailand caught in the destruction and chaotic aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

Comedy: Ghostbusters (1984)
Three former parapsychology professors set up shop as a unique ghost removal service.

Animation: Flushed Away (2006)
The story of an uptown rat (Hugh Jackman) that gets flushed down the toilet from his penthouse apartment, ending in the sewers of London, where he has to learn a whole new and different way of life.

Romance: La La Land
While navigating their careers in Los Angeles, pianist Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) and actress Mia (Emma Stone) fall in love while attempting to reconcile their aspirations for the future.

Horror: Insidious (2010)
A family looks to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called The Further.

Science Fiction: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
When their relationship turns sour, Joel (Jim Carrey) and Clementine (Kate Winslet) undergo a medical procedure to have each other erased from their memories.

Crime: Dirty Harry (1971)
When a madman calling himself “the Scorpio Killer” menaces the city, tough as nails San Francisco Police Inspector ‘Dirty’ Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) is assigned to track down and ferret out the crazed psychopath.

Thriller: The International (2009)
An Interpol agent (Clive Owen) attempts to expose a high-profile financial institution’s role in an international arms dealing ring.

Documentary: Amanda Knox (2016)
American exchange student Amanda Knox is convicted and eventually acquitted for the 2007 death of another student in Italy.

Family: Free Willy (1993)
When Jesse (Jason James Richter) learns that a beloved killer whale is to be killer by the aquarium owners, the boy risks everything to free the whale.

Top 5 Thursday: Naomi Watts Movies

Somehow I realized just now that I didn't do a Top 5 Thursday last week. Well, here's one again. I decided to share with you my five favorite movies of my all-time favorite actress Naomi Watts. Now I have finally seen “The Impossible” I can make this list. Naomi Watts has been my favorite actress ever since I saw her in “21 Grams”. I don’t think many people share this favorite, but she captivates me every single time. She is so convincing and I think she is absolutely fantastic. Here are my favorites.

5. The Painted Veil
This movie didn’t make it to theatres here in the Netherlands, which proves again what a strange country this is. When I saw the trailer for the first time, I just had to see it. So when I saw the DVD in the store I just had to have it. Wonderful movie that not a lot of people know about.

4. The Impossible
I saw it recently for the first time. I was so ashamed, as a Naomi Watts fan, that I hadn’t seen it yet. But I was touched by this movie. This might even be Naomi’s best performance so far. Her second Academy Award nomination.

3. Mulholland Drive
This is one of those mindf*** movies. You think you understand it, but than you don’t and you’re surrounded by all sorts of weird characters. Mastermind David Lynch made a fantastic film and I thank him for letting Naomi star in it.

2. King Kong
Although Kong is the star of this film, I loved Naomi in it. The scenes with the two of them in it are so beautiful. This movie blew my mind.

1. 21 Grams
Like I said in my intro, this movie introduced me to Naomi Watts. This also got Naomi her first Academy Award nomination (it went to my other favorite Charlize Theron). After seeing her in “21 Grams” I knew I wanted to see everything she was in.

DVD Collection Update (2)

Since my last update I bought nine Dvd's. Some of them were really cheap and some of them I really needed to add to my collection. I owed it to myself ;) . Here's my update.

First I got "The Cabin in the Woods". I had heard so many great things about this seemingly standard horror movie. When I read the back I thought it was going to be another one of those slashers, with all the horror movie clichés. But it's not standard at all. Very entertaining, surprising and real fun. I already lend it to my brother, who is a horror fan.

I got the second season of "One Tree Hill". I've had the first season for quite some time now and I actually rewatched it during my spring vacation. That's when I realised again how fun the show is, so I ordered the second season and watched it during that same vacation. Eventually I want the complete series.

I was ashamed that I hadn't seen it yet, as a Naomi Watts fan. So when it came out, I rushed to the store and purchased it. Now I did see "The Impossible" and I think it's a beautiful movie. Maybe even Naomi Watts' best performance so far. Grab a box of tissues when you watch this girls!

Another Naomi Watts movie that I didn't see yet was "Dream House". I bumped into it while shopping with my friend Nandy. I also watched it and it wasn't as scary as I expected. Not one of her best movies, but I'll keep it in my collection because I want to own all Naomi Watts movies someday.

I wanted to see this movie ever since I saw its trailer. It's a French movie called "De Rouille et d'os", but in English it's called "Rust and Bone". It stars Marion Cotillard and it's an arthouse movie. It's also a special edition DVD and I'm very excited to finally see it.

I held this DVD in my hands a couple of times, but I thought it was overprized. The price had been lowered in the meantime, so I bought it finally. "The Dark Knight Rises" is a highly anticipated movie that I have yet to watch. I'm especially very curious about Tom Hardy as Bane, because I heard so many things about this role.

Another movie that I wanted to see for a long time is "Where the Wild Things Are". A book that I read as a kid and as a teacher now read to kids. I think this is a movie that I know won't disappoint me.

"Fargo" is a movie that should be in every moviefan's collection. Haven't seen in it a while and it's one of my favorites. Glad to add this to my collection.

And last I got an 80's classic. "The Breakfast Club". Can't remember when I last saw it, but now that I own it I want to see it ASAP.

Movie Trailer Sunday (49)

This weeks trailers are about a singing group, butter carving, the tsunami in Thailand, a seductive superior and eight friend vacationing together.

The Sapphires
Description: We follow four vivacious, young and talented Australian Aboriginal girls from a remote mission as they learn about love, friendship and war when their all girl group The Sapphires entertains the U.S. troops in Vietnam in 1968. Cynthia (Miranda Tapsell), Gail (Deborah Mailman), Julie (Jessica Mauboy) and Kay (Shari Sebbens) are discovered by Dave (Chris O'Dowd), a good-humored talent scout with a kind heart, very little rhythm but a great knowledge of soul music. As their manager, Dave books the sisters their first true gig giving them their first taste of stardom, and travels them to Vietnam to sing for the American troops.

Butter

The Impossible

Comment: The trailer alone made me cry. And Naomi Watts is my favorite, so I definitely want to see this movie.

Passion

Little White Lies
