100 Movie Challenge 2014 - # What to Expect When You're Expecting

Director: Kirk Jones
Genre: Comedy/ Romance/ Drama
Runtime: 110 minutes
Year: 2012
Starring: Cameron Diaz, Matthew Morrison, Elizabeth Banks, Ben Falcone, Jennifer Lopez, Rodrigo Santoro, Brooklyn Decker, Dennis Quaid, Anna Kendrick, Chace Crawford, Chris Rock, Joe Manganiello

Description: A look at love through the eyes of five interconnected couples experiencing the thrills and surprises of having a baby, and ultimately coming to understand the universal truth that no matter what you plan for, life doesn't always deliver what's expected.

Review: The title tells you everything: all the ins and out about pregnancies and babies. The movie follows five different stories about this subject. First we have Jules, the presenter of a weight loss program, who is having a baby with her partner Evan. There is Gary and his wife Wendy who have been trying to get pregnant for two years. But when it finally happens, it’s not as fantastic as she always thought. Gary’s father Ramsey and his very young new wife Skyler are also expecting, and she does have the glow that Wendy was always hoping for. The young Rosie gets pregnant after a one-night-stand with Marco, the guy who left her on prom night. And finally Holly and Alex who are trying to adopt a child. Holly is ready, but Alex clearly isn’t.
It’s very clever to make an ensemble film out of this concept, multiple storylines work well very often. And various genres are mixed as well. This makes it to an unbalanced film. Over-the-top slapsticks switch to dramatic moments that don’t really fit in here.
Although I love Cameron Diaz, she isn’t the real star in this film. Elizabeth Banks and Ben Falcone, who play Wendy and Gary, and Anna Kendrick and Chace Crawford, as Rosie and Marco, have the most interesting storylines and are the most convincing. I especially think that the last two actors where underused.
It’s definitely an entertaining movie, but it never really hits the mark.

Movie Trailer Sunday (15)

A pretty good trailer week. This weeks trailers are about an engaged couple, a marine finding his good luck charm, the three Stooges, paretnhood and Madagascar.

The Five-Year Engagement
Description: We follow the ups and downs of Tom and Violet, a engaged couple (Emily Blunt and Jason Segel)
Director: Nicholas Stoller
Starring: Emily Blunt, Jason Segel, Chris Pratt and Rhys Ifans
Trailer: Trailer "The Five-Year Engagement"
Comment: I love watching both Emily Blunt and Jason Segel. They look like a nice on screen couple and the trailer looks fun.

The Lucky One
Description: Logan (Zac Efron) is a Marine who survives three tours in Iraq. He attributes his good fortune to a photograph he carried of a woman he has never met, and he sets out to meet his good-luck charm when he returns to North Carolina.
Director:Scott Hicks
Starring: Zac Efron, Taylor Schilling and Blythe Danner
Trailer: Trailer "The Lucky One"
Comment: I WANT TO SEE THIS! I'm not a Zac Efron fan, but after seeing this trailer I want to marry him (not really off course...).

The Three Stooges
Description: The movie takes place when the trio are dumped out as newborns at the door of an orphanage. The comedy follows them to adulthood and is very much in the spirit of the original shorts, in which the blue collar bumblers got the best of the wealthy society matrons that tried to exploit them.
Director: Bobby Farrelly and Peter Farrelly
Starring: Chris Diamantopoulos, Will Sasso, Sean Hayes, Jane Lynch, Larry David, Stephen Collins, Sofia Vergara and Jennifer Hudson
Trailer: Trailer "The Three Stooges"

What to Expect When You're Expecting
Description: We follow the relationships of seven couples as they experience the thrills, terrors, surprises, aches, and pains of preparing to embark on life's biggest journey: parenthood.
Director: Kirk Jones
Starring: Cameron Diaz, Matthew Morrison, Dennis Quaid, Brooklyn Decker, Elizabeth Banks, Anna Kendrick, Chase Crawford, Chris Rock, Rodrigo Santoro and Jennifer (you suck) Lopez
Trailer: Trailer "What to Expect When You're Expecting"
Comment: I dispise Jennifer Lopez, but that's also how much I love Cameron Diaz. So I give it the benefit of the doubt.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted
Description: Alex the Lion (Ben Stiller), Marty the Zebra (Chris Rock), Gloria the Hippo (Jada Pinkett-Smith), and Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer) are still fighting to get home to their beloved Big Apple and of course, King Julien, Maurice and the Penguins are all along for the comedic adventure. Their journey takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a traveling circus, which they reinvent Madagascar style.
Director: Eric Darnell
Starring: Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Sacha Baron Cohen and Cedric The Entertainer
