Top 5 Thursday: Kidnapping Movies

Do you have enough ransom money? Well, you should while being in these situations. Here are my five favorite movies involving a kidnapping.

5. The Silence of the Lambs

The movie is mostly about the cat and mouse game between cannibal Hannibal Lecter and rookie FBI agent Clarice Starling. But it’s Buffalo Bill, the kidnapper, that always scared me the most.

 

 

4. Taken

An American tourist in Paris is kidnapped, sadly for the kidnappers this girl has an ex CIA agent as her dad. “Taken” has one of the most awesome phone calls in movie history and it introduced us to a new Liam Neeson.

 

 

3. Misery

Normally every actor, singer, writer or artist likes meeting his fans. But not when you’re name is Paul Sheldon and Annie Wilkes is your number one fan. She saves him from a car accident and decides to take care of him. But when Annie finds out Paul killed off her favorite book character, Paul is in for one hell of a ride.

 

 

2. Prisoners

A movie that blew my mind when I first saw it. Two little girls are gone missing, right after an unknown RV was sighted in the area. When the cops aren’t really making progress, one of the girls dad’s takes the matters in his own hands.

 

 

1. Fargo

This is a kidnapping gone wrong, because inept people and shady kidnappers are involved. This dark comedy really works. Especially when someone like Marg Gunderson investigates the case.

Top 5 Thursday: Cringe-worthy Movie Scene

We all know them, those scenes in movies that you just can’t watch. Because the repulse you, give you the chills or are just simply disgusting. Especially because you sometimes didn’t see it coming and are unexpected. Here is my list of cringe-worthy movie scenes. Don’t be afraid, I’m not sharing pictures.

5. Syriana

Torture is never fun to watch, but some films don’t make you watch the gruesome parts. Not “Syriana”. We got to squirm along with George Clooney as his CIA analyst gets his fingernail painstakingly removed with large pliers. Such a small body part to cause such agony.

 

 

4. American Histoy X

I’d never heard of ‘curbing’ until I saw “American History X”. When Edward Norton’s hate ideologue Derek Vineyard forces a black car thief to get down on the ground and place his open mouth on the sidewalk curb, teeth gratting, I got sick to my stomach. When Derek stomped on the back of the thief’s head, splittin his head like a melon, I whipped my own head around as if struck. I simply can’t watch this scene.

 

 

3. 127 Hours

The story of adventure junkie Aron Ralston was well publicized long before James Franco brought the tale to the big screen, but familiarity did little to quell the effect of the film’s gory amputation scene. And even if you were one of the steel-stomached moviegoers who didn’t pass out, bury you head in the shoulder of the person next to you, or lose your lunch during the scene, it’s likely that the image of the protagonist cutting away his own arm with the aid of a dull pocket knife will pop into you head the next time you’re deciding whether or not you want to tour some visually stunning canyons.

 

 

2. Misery

Nobody brings the crazy like Kathy Bates. When author Paul Sheldon veers off the road during a nasty snowstorm, his number one fan promises to nurse him back to health. That is, until she slams a sledgehammer into his ankles to make sure he doesn’t wander from her adoring gaze.

 

 

1. Requiem for a Dream

Darren Aronofsky’s drug-spiral odyssey is one cringe-worthy moment after another, but never more so than when Harry shoots heroin into the cavernous black hole of infection that is forming on his arm.

Top 5 Thursday: Movies from 1990

I did one for my birth year and I really want to do more of those top fives. This time I wanted to share with you my five favorites from the year 1990.

5. Home Alone
How can you not love this movie. I’ve seen it a gazillion times, but it’s still incredibly funny.

4. Goodfellas
One of the best mob movies ever made. Especially Joe Pesci’s role is unforgettable. Great movie!

3. Glory
What a beautiful film. Not a movie I’ve seen that many times, but I remember that it left a huge impression on me after the first time. And that tear on Denzel Washinton’s cheek was heartbreaking!

2. Misery
One of the great Stephen King stories. Kathy Bates shines in this film and do you remember that excruciating scene with James Caan’s foot? Auch…

1. Dances with Wolves
A movie with an extreme length, but it doesn’t bother me one second. It’s a beautifully shot film and a well written story.

Top 5 Thursday: Stephen King Movies

I’m currently reading Stephen King books and that gave me the idea for this weeks top 5. Almost every story King wrote has been made into a movie. Here are my favorite Stephen King book to movie adaptations.

5. “The Mist”
This movie is very good, creepy and terrifying. Just the idea of being surrounded by mist and you don’t know what’s happening. And that ending…. So dramatic, so sad.

4. “Misery”
What a nut is this Annie. A movie with only two important characters and so exciting. A real chilling story.

3. “The Green Mile”
Another jail movie, with a supernatural touch to it. Some moments are heart wrecking and some touching. A memorable movie that won’t let you go.

2. “Stand By Me”
This movie is so great. Four friends, all different, go on a trip together to find the dead body of Ray Brower. A movie about friendship and so much more.

1. “The Shawshank Redemption”
No doubt about it that this is my number one. People who read my blog know that “The Shawshank Redemption” is my favorite movie of all-time.
