Five to Watch - Movies with Flowers in the Title

Since it’s Spring/ Summer and flowers are in bloom, I decided to do it a bit different. I picked five films, with a flower in the title.  Here are five films I think are not as well-known or deserve more attention. And I think you should definitely give them a shot.

Blue Jasmine (2013)
A tragic comedy about snobby millionaire wife Jasmine, who after her husband’s exposure as a fraud moves into the apartment of her sister Ginger, a cashier with a soft spot for tattoeed auto mechanics and handymen. In  a sequence of bittersweet romance and downright painful skits, director Woody Allen conjured up a beautifully contemporary  “A Streetcar named Desire” type of film, with Cate Blanchett shining as a self-talking neurotic wreck.
 

The War of the Roses (1989)
Oliver and Barbara Rose’s marriage is in u rut. Not that anyone can say what’s going wrong right now, but from the moment the kids are in college, Barbara feels a deep dislike for husband. They start bullying each other and the situation becomes more and more dramatic, so that at one point all they can do is hate each other. It’s a black comedy that shows how far people can go in their drive to destroy another psychologically and physically. Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner were cast against their image, but what they deliver is great class. Danny DeVito portrays a wonderful supporting role.
 

The Name of the Rose (1986)
When mysterious murders are committed in a monastery in northern Italy in the late Middle Ages, the Franciscan monk William of Baskerville, travels to the scene of the calamity to bring light into the darkness with an uncharacteristically rational eye. His assistant Adso observes, learns and shudders at the sight of the deformed monastics with their lousy manners. It might not be a very special film, but it somehow always stayed with me.  
 

Broken Flowers (2005)
A melancholic road movie starring Bill Murray as a Don Johnston, who has made his fortune in the IT business. After getting kicked out by his latest girlfriend, he receives a letter in which the anonymous sender reports that Don has had a son for nineteen years. Stimulated by his neighbor, a self-proclaimed detective who also writes thrillers, Don embarks on a tour of some of his ex-lovers.
 

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011)
The fact that hardly anything happens in this feel-good film is not bad at all: the ensemble cast is unanimously up to speed and the subject matter is quite original. A group of British seniors travel to India to spend their last days in an exclusive resort for the elderly. Once they arrive they discover that the resort is not quite falling apart apart from misery. But soon the group are having a great time together. It’s a heartwarming movie.

A movie filled with experienced Brittish actors and actresses, a perfect mix of drama and comedy. And also full of great characters worth talking about. Here are the characters from “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”.

Evelyn Greenslade
Played by: Judi Dench
Evelyn is a housewife who just lost her husband. She has to sell her house to pay off her husband’s debt. Evelyn’s son wants her to stay with him so he can take care of her, but instead she starts writing a blog and travels to India.

Douglas Ainslee
Played by Bill Nighy
Douglas is an optimist. He wants to see more of the world and likes to explore. Douglas is very loyal and that’s how he kept his wife for 39 years. He invested all of his lifesavings in his daughter’s internet business, so they can only afford a small beige bungalow.

Jean Ainslee
Played by: Penelope Wilton
Married to Douglas, Jean is the opposite. She is a pessimist. Jean hates everything about India, the poverty, smell, food, noise. Instead of exploring like Douglas, she stays inside the intire stay and just wants to return to England.

Muriel Donnelly
Played by: Maggie Smith
Muriel is an ex-housekeeper. She needs a new hip and although she is a bitter racist she decides to travel to India for a quick treatment. There Muriel discovers a different life and also learns to respect the culture.

Graham Dashwood
Played by: Tom Wilkinson
Graham is a retired High court judge. He’s been to India before and he finally returns. And he returns for a reason, because he had found love there the first time around. He is determined to find the man he loved for so many years.

Norman Cousins
Played by: Ronald Pickup
Norman is a womanizer, he likes his girls young. He can’t accept his own age, so he decides to make a new start in India.

Madge Hardcastle
Played by: Celia Imrie
Madge has been married several times and isn’t going to stop. She thinks she won’t find a man in England so she decides to travel to India to find fun, adventure and a new husband.

Sonny Kapoor
Played by: Dev Patel
Sonny is the owner of the Marigold hotel. Although it doesn’t look like a succeful business, Sonny is very ambitious and he sees his future in the hotel. His determination makes him unwilling to ask for help.

DVD Collection Update (9)

Another great DVD update! Some movies I wanted to add to my collection for a long time and a great TV-show.

First I got the 4th season of "Modern Family". I already watched the entire season and loved every minute of it. It's such a fantastic show. And I'm a big fan of Phil's osophy! And that episode where Cam is in the three with his "Cats" costume. (P)hilarious

I can see you role your eyes, but this movie is one of my guilty pleasures. I do know it's really bad, but it's just so much fun to watch. And I remember my brother and I playing the game "Mortal Kombat" on our first Nintento. When I watched this the other day, I saw how afwul the effects were... But I do think it's entertaining.

"The Best Exotic Marogold Hotel" is a movie with a very experienced cast. I like Bill Nighy and Judi Dench, but I absolutely love Maggie Smith. I can't wait to finally see this film.

It's almost Christmas and this is one of the coolest Christmas movies ever. The way it was made and all the songs. LOVE IT! I like this edition, with the black & white Jack Skellington cover.

I was really ashamed that I didn't own Disney's "Beauty & the Beast" yet, because it's my favorite Disney movie. For some reason it was really hard to find here. But I finally got it and I'm over the moon excited!

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Description: A group of British retirees decide to "outsource" their retirement to less expensive and seemingly exotic India. Enticed by advertisements for the newly restored Marigold Hotel and bolstered with visions of a life of leisure, they arrive to find the palace a shell of its former self. Though the new environment is less luxurious than imagined, they are forever transformed by their shared experiences, discovering that life and love can begin again when you let go of the past.

Comment: I sounds pretty ridiculous, but the trailer looks pretty good.

Perfect Sense
Description: When Susan (Eva Green), an epidemiologist, reemerges from an affair gone sour, she encounters a peculiar patient - a Glasgow truck driver who experienced a sudden, uncontrollable crying fit. Now he is calm, but he has lost his sense of smell. Susan learns there are 11 cases like him in Glasgow, 7 in Aberdeen, 5 in Dundee, and 18 in Edinburgh. In fact, Great Britain has 100 cases, with additional ones reported in France, Belgium, Italy, and Spain, and they all appeared in the last 24 hours. Although Susan's encounter with Michael (Ewan McGregor), a local restaurant chef, holds the promise of new love, the world is about to change dramatically. People across the globe begin to suffer strange symptoms, affecting the emotions, then the senses.
