Netflix Friday - Volume 106

Some Netflix film tips for the weekend! And there is something for everyone, since I picked a movie for all the different genres.
 

Action: Mandy (2018)
The enchanted lives of a couple in a secluded forest are brutally shattered by a nightmarish hippie cult and their demon-biker henchmen, propelling a man into a spiraling, surreal rampage of vengeance.
 

Drama: Ben is Back (2018)
A drug addicted teenage boy (Lucas Hedges) shows up unexpectedly at his family’s home on Christmas Eve.
 

Comedy: This is the End (2013)
Six Los Angeles celebrities are stuck in James Franco’s house after a series of devastating events just destroyed the city. Inside, the group not only have to face the apocalypse, but themselves.
 

Animation: Arriety (2010)
The Clock family are four-inch-tall people who live anonymously in another family’s residence, borrowing simple items to make their home. Life changes for the Clocks when their teenage daughter, Arriety, is discovered.
 

Romance: Austenland (2013)
Obsessed with Pride and Prejudice, a woman (Keri Russell) travels to a Jane Austen theme park in search for her perfect gentleman.
 

Horror: Halloween (2018)
Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) confronts her long-life foe, Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.
 

Science Fiction: The 5^th Wave (2016)
Four waves of increasingly deadly alien attacks have left most of Earth in ruin. Cassie (Chloë Grace Moretz) is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother.
 

Crime: I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore (2017)
When a depressed woman (Melanie Lynskey) is burgled, she finds a new sense of purpose by tracking down the thieves alongside her obnoxious neighbor (Elijah Wood). But they soon find themselves dangerously out of the depth against a pack of degenerate criminals.
 

Thriller: I See You (2019)
Strange occurrences plague a small town detective (Jon Tenney) and his family as he investigates the disappearance of a young boy.
 

Documentary: Jackass Forever (2022)
After 11 years, the Jackass crew is back for another crusade.
 

Family: Mr. Bean’s Holliday (2007)
Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson_ wins a trip to Cannes where he unwittingly separates a young boy from his father and must help the two reunite. On the way he discovers France, bicycling and true love.

Description: While attending a party at James Franco's house, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel and many other celebrities are faced with the apocalypse.

Review: Relaxing with his friend Seth Rogen, smoke some weed, play video games and eat junk food. That’s the weekend Jay Baruchel had in mind in “This is the End”. Sadly for him, that chill weekend ends up in the apocalypse.
Against his will Jay joins Seth for a house warming party at James Franco’s house. The new mansion is filled with Hollywood’s finest. When Jay and Seth quickly go to a store, they witness a weird happening where people are sucked into the sky. It’s followed by a giant sink hole in front of Franco’s house.
“This is the End” is a comedy that can go two ways: you either love it or you hate it. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have proved themselves before, with the comedy “Superbad”. And again they manage to make us laugh. It’s the end of days, packed with simple, tasteless jokes and pretty enjoyable (sorry to say) death scenes of famous movie stars. By mocking themselves and Hollywood, “This is the End” never has a dull moment.
“This is the End” is a film that is self-aware and not to be taken too seriously. The actors exaggerate their own character, and that’s why it’s a fun movie that I love. A guarantee for laughs.

Movie Moments: This is the End

This movie could go in two different directions: it was either going to really bad or brilliantly funny. Thank God it was the last, because some of my favorites are in here. James Franco and Seth Rogen are amazing, I really enjoyed this movie. So here are my favorite moments from “This is the End”.

 

Moment # 1: Cleanse

Seth just picked up Jay from the airport. Jay wants to get hamburgers, but Seth tells him he’s on a cleanse. He’s not supposed to be eating glutens. Jay thinks it’s a load of crap and the two start a discussion about it.

Moment # 2: The end begins

Jay and Seth go out to buy cigarettes, then all of a sudden blue beams come from the sky and start sucking people up in the sky.

Moment # 3: Michael Cera dies

L.A. is on fire and Michael Cera starts worrying about his phone. Someone took it. But that’s the least of his worries, because he gets skewered by a telephone pole.

Moment # 4: Milky Way

The guys list their food supplies and start fighting over a Milky Way.

Moment # 5: Emma Watson

Emma Watson shows up at the house and just wants to get some sleep. She overhears a conversation between the guys, but mishears it. She decides to get the hell out of there and take some provision with her.

Moment # 6: Magazine

James gets angry when he finds out someone masturbated onto his porno magazine. It appears it was Danny who did that, so the two start a heated discussion about masturbation.

Moment # 7: Closet

Jonah has been possessed and is now chasing James and Seth. They hide in a closet, but Seth’s a very heavy breather so they soon will be found.

Moment # 8: The exorcism of Jonah Hill

The guys decide to perform an exorcism on Jonah Hill. Jay knows how to, because he saw the movie “The Exorcist”.

Moment # 9: The Backstreet Boys

Jay and Seth made it to heaven and they can make any wish they want. Seth wishes for a Segway and Jay for the Backstreet Boys.

DVD Collection Update (11)

Time for another DVD update. I bought some great new movies, some TV shows and a classic.

I'm really into Wes Anderson movies lately, I love his style and colorpalet. I wanted to see "Moonrise Kingdom" for a while, but it was pretty hard to find this movie. I already watched it, you can read a review on this blog. I loved it!

This movie really surprised me. I hardly ever buy movies where I doubt the opinion of reviewers. I didn't think "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" would be this good.

I saw "This is the End" in theatres with my brother. I knew I was going to like it, but it surprised my brother. He laughed really hard, just like me. So I just had to add this to my collection.

Remember last update, where I told you I asked for a DVD of "The Walking Dead" and my mom got me season 3 of "Waking the Dead". It was a happy accident, because I love the show and decided to buy the first two season as well. The show has 9 seasons, so I still have a lot of episodes to view.

When I first saw the trailer I wanted to see this in theatres no matter what. Well, I didn't... but now I own the DVD. Brad Pitt hunting zombies in "World War Z" sounds pretty amazing!

I was just talking to my brother the other day and I told him I hadn't seen "Ghostbusters" in a while. So when I saw the DVD in the store there was no doubt in my mind. I had to take it home with me.

I finally want to see why Daniel Day Lewis won an Oscar. "Lincoln" is going to be amazing, eventhough I haven't seen it before I know it beforehand.

And last I got season 8 of of "Supernatural". I really need my dose of Dean Winchester, because it feels like forever since I watched him in action.

Me & 3 Seth Rogen Movies

You either love this guy or you hate him. I think he’s freakin’ hilarious, although his roles aren’t very diverse. I really do enjoy him and I decided to watch three of his movies. Here are the ones I picked out.

Superbad
Genre: Comedy

Description: Seth and Evan (Jonah Hill and Michael Cera) are best friends, inseparable, navigating the last weeks of high school. Usually shunned by the popular kids, Seth and Evan luck into an invitation to a party, and spend a long day, with the help of their nerdy friend Fogell (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), trying to score enough alcohol to lubricate the party and inebriate two girls, Jules (Emma Stone) and Becca (Martha McIsaac), so they can kick-start their sex lives and go off to college with a summer full of experience and new skills. Their quest is complicated by Fogell's falling in with two inept cops who both slow and assist the plan. If they do get the liquor to the party, what then? Is sex the only rite of passage at hand?
Opinion: It’s typical Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg humor. And I like it. I’m not a big fan of Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, but Seth Rogen, Bill Hader and Christopher Mintz-Plasse really steal the show here. Those scenes with the three of them just crack me up! Favorite character: McLovin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)
Most memorable quote: “I'd give my middle nut to start dating Becca”. – Evan –
Best scene: McLovin has to try to get liquor, but he worries. Especially that he should have kept the vest on.

Opinion: I was looking forward to seeing this movie and it didn’t disappoint me at all. It’s so much fun. Although I’m not a Jonah Hill fan, the cast worked perfectly together.
Favorite character: Craig Robinson (Craig Robinson)
Most memorable quote: “I don’t wanna die at James Franco’s house” –Jay Baruchel-
Best scene: Seth and James find out that Jonah is possessed by a demon and they try to hide from him. But Seth’s apparently a loud breather.

Paul
Genre: Comedy
Year: 2011

Cast: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Jason Bateman, Jane Lynch
Description: Two sci-fi geeks take a pilgrimage to America's UFO heartland. While there, they accidentally meet an alien who brings them on an insane road trip that alters their universe forever. For the past 60 years, an alien named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen) has been hanging out at a top-secret military base. When he discovers he's been taken prisoner, the space-traveling smart ass decides to escape the compound and hop on the first vehicle out of town - a rented RV containing Earthlings Graeme Willy (Simon Pegg) and Clive Gollings (Nick Frost). Chased by federal agents and the fanatical father of a young woman that they accidentally kidnap, Graeme and Clive hatch a fumbling escape plan to return Paul to his mother ship. And as two nerds struggle to help, one little green man might just take his fellow outcasts from misfits to intergalactic heroes.
Opinion: We all know the combination Pegg/ Frost works like a charm. And Seth Rogen’s voice is very recognizable, especially the laugh. It’s totally different from the Brittisch comedies they usually make, but it was highly entertaining and very funny. And I liked the supporting roles by Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader.
Favorite character: Graem Willy (Simon Pegg)
Most memorable quote: “This is America. Kidnapping a Christian is worse than harboring a fugitive” – Paul-
Best scene: The first meeting between Graeme,Clive and the alien Paul.

Top 5 Thursday: Upcoming Movies I'm Excited About (June 2013)

There are so many great looking movies coming out this year. Many to look forward to, but these five are my absolute favorites and must-sees.

5. This is the End
I don’t know which direction this is heading, it’s either going to be extremely funny and brilliant or simply ridiculous and stupid. I’m hoping (and secretly expecting) the first. Besides James Franco can’t do anything wrong in my eyes.

4. Monster’s University
I love “Monster’s Inc.”, it’s my favorite Pixar film. And Mike Wazowski is my favorite character from the Pixar franchise. Can’t wait to se this prequel.

3. The World’s End
I’m a fan of the combination of Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright. They already brought us two amazing films, that I can watch over and over again and that are on my favorites list. In my social circle, only me and my brother understand the brilliance of these films.

2. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
The trailer premiered yesterday and now I’m even more excited. We got to see a lot, like Smaug the dragon. It looks more action packed then the first installment.

1. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
I’ve been looking forward to see it, ever since “The Hunger Games”. I saw the trailer and it looks really awesome. It’s based on my favorite book in the series, so I have high expectations.

To the Wonder
