Netflix Friday - Volume 54

Some Netflix film tips for the weekend! And there is something for everyone, since I picked a movie for all the different genres.
 

Action: Olympus Has Fallen (2013)
Secret Service agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) finds himself trapped inside the White House in the wake of a terrorist attack and works with national security to rescue the President (Aaron Eckhart) from his kidnappers.
 

Drama: The Doors (1991)
The story of the famous and unfluential 1960s rock band The Doors and its lead singer and composer Jim Morrison (Val Kilmer), from his days as a UCLA film student in Los Angeles, to his untimely death in Paris, France at age 27 in 1971.
 

Comedy: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994)
A goofy detective (Jim Carrey) specializing in animals goes in search of the missing mascot of the Miami dolphins.
 

Animation: Penguins of Madagascar (2014)
Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private join forces with undercover organization The North Wind to stop the villainous Dr. Octavius Brine from destroying the world as we know it.
 

Romance: No Reservations (2007)
The Life of a top chef (Catherine Zeta-Jones) changes when she becomes the guardian of her young niece (Abigail Breslin).
 

Horror: It Chapter 2 (2019)
Twenty-seven years after their first encounter with the terrifying Pennywise, the Losers Club have grown up and moved away, until a devastating phone call brings them back.
 

Science Fiction: Rim of the World (2019)
Four misfit campers must band together and conquer their fears in order to save the world during an alien invasion.
 

Crime: Donnie Brasco (1997)
An FBI undercover agent (Johnny Depp) infiltrates the mob and finds himself identifying more with the mafia life, at the expense of his regular one.
 

Thriller: The Woman in the Window (2021)
An agoraphobic woman (Amy Adams) living alone in New York begins spying on her new neighbors, only to witness a disturbing act of violence.
 

Documentary: Elvis Presley: the Searcher (2018)
Elvis Presley’s evolution as a musician and a man.
 

Family: Wonder Park (2019)
Wonder Park is an amusement Park where the imagination of a wildly creative girl names June comes to alive.

Top 5 Thursday: Comedies of the 1990s

I like a good laugh, because I think life is better when you’re laughing. But what are my favorite comedies? Well, that’s a task, so I decided to go by decade. Starting with the 1990s. Here they come.

5. Groundhog Day

Not slapstick comedy, but Bill Murray comedy. Murray is one of the funniest actors in Hollywood and “Groundhog Day” is one of those comedies that will stay timeless.

 

 

4. Dumb and Dumber

When you say 90s comedy, Jim Carrey is definitely a big part of it. I saw “Dumb and Dumber” in theatres and it cracked me up back then. It still does. I haven’t seen the sequel though, I really don’t want to.

 

 

3. The Big Lebowski

This humor is slightly different from the other ones on the list, but I really liked seeing Jeff Bridges as ‘The Dude’. He is kind of useless, but boy do we love him. And his attachment to his rug.

 

 

2. There’s Something About Mary

I love this comedy, it makes me laugh every single time. Ben Stiller is loveable and clumbsy Ted, Matt Dillon as creepy and sleezy Pat and off course pretty Cameron Diaz as Mary.

 

 

1. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

This is a role only Jim Carrey can pull off. “Ace Venture: Pet Detective” is even one of my favorite comedies of all time. It has so many memorable scenes: the sliding door, Ace wearing a tutu, thinking he found Snowflake.

Marry, Kiss, Cliff - Round 8

Jon (“Don Jon”), Tony Stark (“Iron Man”) and Ace Ventura (“Ace Ventura: Pet Detective”)

Marry: It might sound weird but I would marry Ace Ventura. He is very strange, but he loves animals and he has a fantastic sense of humor. (Don’t think I choose Jim Carrey over Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Robert Downey Jr. It’s about the characters people!

Kiss: Jon likes his girl, I wouldn’t be his first. You can’t deny Jon and I would just ignore his addiction to porn.

Cliff: Tony Stark is too much of a playboy for me. And if I push him off a cliff, he could probably fly off in his suit anyway so it wouldn’t kill him.

Top 5 Thursday: Jim Carrey Movies

One of the funniest actors in the business. He has made some great movies, memorables ones. With Kick-Ass 2 coming up I thought it would be great to sum up his five best movies in my opinion.

5. Dumb and Dumber
Rewatched it just recently and I remember actually seeing this one in theatres. What a bunch of idiots, but it's such a good time watching. Every time.

4. The Cable Guy
An obsession gone bad. Jim Carrey is just freaky in this movie. I love that scene where he and Matthew Broderick are at that medieval dinnershow. Just when you thought he couldn’t get any weirder.

3. Liar, Liar
A movie I can watch over and over again and never get tired of and still laugh. I think it’s impossible to work opposite Jim, because he can’t take anything seriously. The bloopers at the end are worth watching as well.

2. The Truman Show
A more serious movie, but the concept and idea behind it is just genius. I love this movie. That part where it’s raining, just on him, is unforgettable.

1. Ace Venture: Pet Detective
This is without a doubt the most hilarious movie he made. The walk, the talk, the hair, Ace Ventura is one goofy character. Remember the scene in the nuthouse, where he’s wearing the tutu?
