Marry, Kiss, Cliff - Round 8

Jon (“Don Jon”), Tony Stark (“Iron Man”) and Ace Ventura (“Ace Ventura: Pet Detective”)

Marry: It might sound weird but I would marry Ace Ventura. He is very strange, but he loves animals and he has a fantastic sense of humor. (Don’t think I choose Jim Carrey over Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Robert Downey Jr. It’s about the characters people!

Kiss: Jon likes his girl, I wouldn’t be his first. You can’t deny Jon and I would just ignore his addiction to porn.

Cliff: Tony Stark is too much of a playboy for me. And if I push him off a cliff, he could probably fly off in his suit anyway so it wouldn’t kill him.

Me & 3 Joseph Gordon-Levitt Movies

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is such a talented actor, who started out as a child star. He actually stars in some of my favourite movies, like “(500) Days of Summer” and “50/ 50”. I didn’t pick those films, so here are the three film with Joseph Gordon-Levitt I watched.

Don Jon
Genre: Drama/ Comedy
Year: 2013
Director: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Tony Danza
Description: Jon (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a New Jersey guy dedicated to his family, friends, and church, develops unrealistic expectations from watching porn and works to find happiness and intimacy with his potential true love.Opninion: It could have been a lot better, but what I loved the most is the father/ daughter relationship between Eastwood and Adam’s characters.
Opinion: I already knew that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was a great actor, but he has also proven to be an amazing writer and director. I hope he will do this more often.
Favorite character: Esther (Julianne Moore)
Most memorable quote: “There's only a few things I really care about in life. My body. My pad. My ride. My family. My church. My boys. My girls. My porn.“ –Jon-
Best scene: The discussion between Jon and Barbra about Swiffer pads. It really cracked me up.

Premium Rush

Director: David Koepp
Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dania Ramirez, Michael Shannon, Wolé Parks, Jamie Chung, Aasif Mandvi
Description: In Manhattan, bike messenger Wilee (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) picks up an envelope that attracts the interest of a dirty cop (Michael Shannon), who pursues the cyclist throughout the city.
Opinion: Very original, pumping adrenaline, a good thrill ride. Enjoyed it very much.
Favorite character: Wilee (Joseph Gordon-Levitt)
Most memorable quote: “I like to ride. Fixed gear. No brakes. Can't stop. Don't want to, either.” –Wilee-

DVD Collection Update (12)

All the movies I bought recently were movies I haven't seen before. Some relatively new, others just came out. Here they are.

First I got "Don Jon", a movie I wanted to see, but I was the only one. No one in my friend and family circle wanted to join me. And now I'm happy I waited for the DVD, because it's a bit awkward to watch a porn themed film with your brother or best friend. I did love the film, I met my expectations.

I literally bumped into this movie and payed only 3 euros for it. That's practically nothing. In the past I was never a fan of Matthew McConaughey, but I'm starting to like him more and more. It's because his movies get better and he shows me how good of an actor he is. "The Lincoln Lawyer" surprised me, I really enjoyed this film.

I haven't watched "The Descendants" yet, but the day I bought this film, it was also on TV. I decided to wait for the right moment to watch this, but I have high expectations.

Although I'm not into Formula 1 racing, this movie is in my favorites list now. It's an amzing film, with great acting by Daniel Brühl and Chris Hemsworth. And you know how much I love Hemsworth.

The film "Prisoners" is nothing predictable, although it seems in the beginning. It's such a good film ans also on my favorites list now. This movie took my breath away!

In the Picture: The Characters from "Don Jon"

A movie I have wanted to see for some time and it was more than worthed. I loved it and I loved the characters. I picked the three most important ones and I will tell you a little bit about them.

Jon Martello
Played by: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Jon is a modern day Don Juan, with a short list of things he cares about: his body, his pad, his ride, his family, his church, his boys, his girls and his porn. He thinks porn is more satisfying then sex with an actual woman and doesn’t get how women can like romantic movies.

Barbara Sugarman
Played by: Scarlett Johansson
Barbara catches Jon’s attention, but when he finally has her, Barbara insists on a traditional long-term courtship, which proceeds for over a month without sex. When she catches Jon watching porn she is disgusted, but he promises her never to watch it again. Off course Jon doesn’t keep that promise.

Esther
Played by: Julianne Moore
Esther meets Jon in school, where the both take the same class. At first Jon doesn’t really want to have anything to do with her, but soon it turns out that Esther knows Jon even better then he knows himself. With Esther, Jon feels things he never felt before, including certain emotions while having sex. Esther has lost her husband and child and is very vulrenable, but also wise, open and kind.

Favorite Character: Esther

Top 5 Thursay: Movies I Watched for My Challenge (January 2014)

The start of my 100 Movie Challenge went well. Out of the 22 movies I saw this month, all films I haven’t watched before 2014, I had to pick five as favourites. Here they are.

5. People Like Us
I thought this was going to be a very unoriginal movie, that was a lot like other movies in its genres and it was going to be forgettable. It wasn’t because it made my top 5. It’s a beautiful movie, with surprisingly good acting.

4. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Not a lot of action here, but a very strong spy thriller. It kept my attention at all times and it was a real intriguing story. James Bond eat your heart out, George Smiley is in town!

3. Moonrise Kingdom
I’m becoming more and more of a Wes Anderson fan and this is yet another diamond. I love Andersons style, just beautiful.

2. Don Jon
The last movie I watched in January and I loved it. Joseph Gordon-Levitt did a great job writing and directing, but also starring in this film. A good mix a drama and comedy. And the Swiffer-discussion was hilarious!

1. Jagten
The best movie experience is when you watch a film going in blank and coming out completely amazed. That’s what happened when I watched “Jagten”. It really got under my skin and haunted my mind for a couple of days.

They Almost Made the Top 5: The Place Beyond the Pines, Star Trek Into Darkness, The Magic of Belle Isle

100 Movie Challenge 2014 - # 22: Don Jon

Director: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Genre: Drama/ Comedy
Runtime: 90 minutes
Year: 2013
Starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Tony Danza

Description: Jon (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a New Jersey guy dedicated to his family, friends, and church, develops unrealistic expectations from watching porn and works to find happiness and intimacy with his potential true love.

Review: Porn. Altough society is now very open about sexuality, watching porn is a big taboo. With that being said former child star Joseph Gordon-Levitt directs his first movie with this theme.
It might sound weird, but the sound of his Apple computer starting up is enough to give Jon Martello an erection. Not because he’s the world’s biggest Apple fan, but he is an avid viewer of internet porn. Besides his porn there are only a couple of things he cares about: his body, his pad, his ride, his family, his church, his boys and his girls. Lots of girls. Jon likes porn more than sex with an actual woman, until he meets Barbara.
Although the movie is very repetitive at times, that never bothered me. Because that routine the movie goes through every time, changes because of the changes in Jon’s life. It’s hard to find a real message in this film, but I’m doubting there is one. Because the first part of the movie focuses on the comedy, the second part is more serious. That gives “Don Jon” a good balance between the two genres.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s fysical transformation is impressive. His role is very different from his previous ones. It’s very difficult to write, direct and star in a film, but he did a fantastic job. Both Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore where cast perfectly and even Tony Danza surprises. Joseph Gordon-Levitt proofs himself as a director, his way of telling the story is very innovative and interesting.
“Don Jon” gives a renewed view on the romantic comedy: how men and women look at love and relationships. It’s a great directorial debut by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and even with that big amount of sexual related issues a great joy to watch.
