Movie Review - Verity

Director:
Michael Showalter
Genre: Thriller
Runtime: 117 minutes
Year: 2026
Starring: Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett, Anne Hathaway

Description: Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), hired to ghostwrite for best-selling author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway), uncovers Verity’s autobiographical notes, and becomes involved in what may prove to be a lethal conspiracy.

Review: The film adaptation of a gripping bestseller always comes with sky-high expectations, and the psychological thriller “Verity” was no exception. Directed by Michael Showalter and boasting a star-studded cast featuring Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett and Anne Hathaway, this adaptation seemed like a guaranteed success on paper. Unfortunately, the film falls well short on the mark. What should have been a nerve-wrecking ride ends up being a slow and uneven disappointment that never quite manages to capture the tension of the source material.

The film follows Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling author who is hired by Jeremy Crawford to finish writing the remaining books in a highly successful series. The original author, Jeremy’s wife Verity Crawford, is at home, seriously injured and incapacitated after a severe car accident. Lowen moves in with the family at their secluded estate to delve into Verity’s notes. She soon stumbles upon a hidden, terrifying manuscript in which Verity makes a gruesome confession about the family’s dark secrets. As the attraction between Lowen and Jeremy grows, Lowen becomes entangled in a web of manipulation, and the line between chilling fiction and dangerous reality begins to blur.

Let’s get right to the point: the book, written by Colleen Hoover, is far better. While the novel keeps the reader in a constant stranglehold with psychological paranoia and a suffocating atmosphere, the film adaptations opts for a pace that can only be described as boring. The film drags laboriously from one dialogue scene to the next, with only a few rare, suspenseful moments. As a result, the thrilling Hitchcock-esque suspense that the filmmaker tried to imitate never really comes across.

The film’s biggest stumbling block, however, is the way the acting talent was handled. The casting of the title role, in particular, is a missed opportunity: Anne Hathaway’s role is painfully underutilized. Hathaway is a world-class actress, but here she is reduced to a passive character. Her character never takes on the terrifying, mysterious menace that the story so desperately needs. Although Johnson and Hartnett fo their best to keep the chemistry alive, they cannot save the movie.

“Verity” lacks the much-needed intensity that the book has and gets bogged down in a drawn-out thriller that leaves fans of the book cold.

Movie Review - The Invite

Director: Olivia Wilde
Genre: Comedy/ Drama
Runtime: 107 minutes
Year: 2026
Starring: Seth Rogen, Olivia Wilde, Penelope Cruz, Edward Norton
Description: Joe and Angela’s (Seth Rogen, Olivia Wilde) marriage is on the rocks. When they invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbors (Penelope Cruz, Edward Norton) over for dinner, the evening takes an unexpected turn.

Review: Director Olivia Wilde does it again. Following her acclaimed directorial debut, “Booksmart”, she proves with “The Invite” that she is the undisputed queen of modern farce. This film is without a doubt the funniest movie I’ve seen this year. In fact, this hilarious, sharp and somewhat uncomfortable masterpiece is already a serious contender to land at the top of my year-end list.

The film follows Joe and Angela, a couple who, after fifteen years of marriage, have fallen into a deep rut and are on the verge of breaking up. In a desperate attempt to reignite the spark, they invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbors over for dinner Pina and Hawk. What begins as a pleasant evening of polite small talk quickly escalates into a wild emotional rollercoaster.

“The Invite” is a brilliant comedy that takes place entirely within a single apartment in San Fransico. The chemistry between the four lead actors is truly electric. Seth Rogen is at his best as the neurotic, awkward husband, while Penelope Cruz and Edward Norton steal the show as the eccentric, over-the-top neighbors.

Wilde perfectly balances the fine line between wicked humor and genuine emotion. The dialogue is razor-sharp, and the timing is so perfect. But behind all those edgy jokes lies, thanks in part to the psychological depth, a surprisingly mature and relatable story about relationships and midlife crises.
If you’re going to watch just one movie this year, let it be this one!

Movie Review - The Sheep Detectives

Director:
Kyle Balda
Genre: Mystery/ Adventure/ Comedy
Runtime: 109 minutes
Year: 2026
Starring: Hugh Jackman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Chris O’Dowd, Patrick Stewart, Emma Thompson, Nicholas Derry, Regina Hall, Bella Ramsey, Nicholas Galitzine, Brett Goldstein, Rhys Darby, Conleth Hill

Description: Every night shepherd George Hardy (Hugh Jackman) reads aloud a murder mystery, pretending his sheep can understand. When he is found dead, the sheep realize at once that it was a murder and think they know everything about how to go about solving it.

Review: “The Sheep Detectives” is a surprisingly charming and inventive film that cleverly combines the classic whodunnit with humor and charm. The film is a must-see for fans of quirky mysteries and feel-good cinema. In short: it’s a whodunnit with sheep as the amateur sleuths, which sounds ridiculous but is absolutely fantastic.

When the beloved shepherd George Hardy dies under mysterious circumstances, his flock of sheep is left devastated. Every evening, George would read detective stories to his sheep. What he didn’t know was that the animals understood everything. Since the local police are completely off the mark, the sheep decide to take matters into their own hands. They set out to fins clues, interrogate the humans suspects in their own unique way, and prove themselves to be brilliant detectives.

Hugh Jackman shines in his simplicity. He appears mainly in flashbacks, but his warm and sympathetic performance serves as the film’s emotional anchor. The sincere bond between him and his flock gives the story and unexpected emotional depth.

The talking sheep steal the show. With voices provided by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston and many others, each sheep is given a unique personality. The humor shifts effortlessly from visual slapstick for younger viewers to sharp, witty dialogue for adults.

The film has a cozy, countryside vibe, that perfectly complements the charming mystery. It feels like a so-called cozy mystery. But for the seasoned amateur sleuths, the resolution of the murder case could be a bit predictable.

“The Sheep Detectives” is one of the most surprising films of the year. It’s a lovingly crafted feel-good movie that will entertain both young and old. Anyone in the mood for an original atmospheric comedy with a touch of mystery absolutely shouldn’t miss this one.

Movie Review - The End of Oak Street

Director:
David Robert Mitchell
Genre: Adventure/ Action
Runtime: 99 minutes
Year: 2026
Starring: Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, Christian Convery

Description: The Platt family bands together to navigate their new surroundings after a cosmic event transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown.

Review: In this adventure film, directed by David Robert Mitchell, the Platt family suddenly finds themselves in an unimaginable situation. It is the 1980s when a mysterious cosmic storm literally rips their American suburb from the ground an transports it to an unknown, prehistoric location.

Mitchell is best known for the indie horror film “It Follow”, but he proves with “The End of Oak Street” that a summer blockbuster budget can be perfectly combined with an original, fresh concept. Forget the CGI-heavy formulas; this film opts for a delightfully nostalgic, no-nonsense approach of the “Jurassic Park” films, with an 80’s and 90s vibe.

The film’s greatest strength is the chemistry within the family. Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor deliver rock-solid performances as concerned yet determined parents. Despite the absurd premise, they give the film a believable and authentic emotional core.

Visually, fantastic choices were made. Instead of fast-paced, chaotic action montages, they opt for impressive, sweeping shots in broad daylight. And despite the PG13/ 12+ rating, they don’t shy away from a few delightfully unsettling, intense moments.

If you want a scientific explanation though, for what is happening, you may be left somewhat unsatisfied.

It’s one of the most enjoyable and original films I have seen this year.

Movie Review - The Wrecking Crew

Director:
Ángel Manuel Soto
Genre: Action/ Comedy
Runtime: 124 minutes
Year: 2026
Starring: Dave Bautista, Jason Momoa, Temuera Morrison, Morena Baccarin, Romaita Fox, Frankie Adams, Claes Bang, Jacob Batalon, Stephen Root

Description: Estranged half brothers Jonny (Jason Momoa), a volatile suspended cop, and James (Dave Bautista), a disciplined Navy SEAL, reluctantly reunite in Hawaii after their private investigator father is murdered, triggering a dangerous clash with Yakuza operatives.

Review: With “The Wrecking Crew” director Ángel Manuel Soto brings a true throwback to the action comedies of the 80s and 90s. The film relies entirely on the immense physical strength and comedic talent of the lead actors. Although the chemistry between powerhouses Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista is undeniable and the action scenes are delightfully over-the-top, the film’s predictable plot leaves it stuck in the middle of the pack withing the buddy genre.

The film follows two estranged half-brothers after the mysterious death of their father, who was working as a private detective in Hawaii. Both men reluctantly return to the island. As they struggle their deep-seated frustrations, they become entangles in a dangerous conspiracy rife with political corruption, illegal casinos, and ruthless yakuza operations. Together, they must dismantle the criminal organization to protect their family.

The biggest stringy is undoubtedly the duo. Jason Momoa is clearly having a blast playing the impulsive loose cannon, which clashes perfectly with Dave Bautista’s deadpan and serious demeanor. Their bickering and witty banter carry the film during the moments when the story stalls.

The action is also top-notch: hard-hitting, old-school stunts with plenty of very brutal confrontations that fans of the genre are sure to appreciate. Where the film falls short is in originality. It follows the familiar “Lethal Weapon” formula so closely that almost every plot twist can be predicted miles in advanced. And the villains lack the depth to truly make an impression.

“The Wrecking Crew” is highly entertaining, perfect for an evening of mindless entertainment. The fantastic chemistry between Bautista and Momoa elevates the film, but the lack of an original story keeps this action comedy just average.

Movie Review - Disclosure Day

Director:
Steven Spielberg
Genre: Science Fiction/ Thriller/ Mystery
Runtime: 145 minutes
Year: 2026
Starring: Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, Eve Hewson, Wyatt Russell

Description: If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you?

Review: Expectations were high with the release of “Disclosure Day”. After all, an ambitious thriller that promises to explore the line between truth and conspiracy always grabs my attention. Unfortunately, the film fails to fully capitalize on the potential of its rock-solid premise.

The film follows a whistleblower and a team of investigative journalists who uncover a global conspiracy. On the day the government is forced to release shocking, top-secret documents, the so-called Disclosure Day, chaos erupts behind the scenes. As the clock ticks and shadowy forces try to destroy the evidence, the team must pull out all the stops to bring the truth to light before it’s too late.

The biggest strength of “Disclosure Day” is undoubtedly its central mystery. The premise is intriguing from the very first minute, and the film initially succeeds in creating a constant atmosphere of paranoia. In addition, the film is carried by an outstanding lead performance; Emily Blunt is excellent and, with her strong, nuanced acting, manages to anchor the film’s emotional core, even when the script lets her down. However, the film stumbles over its own ambitions. The plot is unnecessarily complicated, with countless side plot, plot twists, and characters who ultimately add little to the story. As a result, the whole thing feels very messy. Instead of a tight, suspenseful build-up, you lose track of the story halfway through due to the overload of information and the rushed editing.

“Disclosure Day” definitely has its strong moments, but it vacillates too much between an intellectually thriller and a chaotic science fiction movie to be truly convincing.

Movie Review - The Whisper Man

Director:
James Ashcroft
Genre: Thriller/ Crime
Runtime: 111 minutes
Year: 2026
Starring: Adam Scott, Michelle Monaghan, Robert De Niro, Hamish Linklater, Michael Keaton,

Description: A grieving father (Adam Scott) and his young son relocate to the quiet town of Featherbank, which was terrorized by a serial killer known as The Whisper Man 15 years earlier, while rumors circulate that Whisper man worked with an accomplice.

Review: With “The Whisper Man”, director James Ashcroft and his cast aim to create a chilling psychological thriller. The film succeeds in evoking an oppressive and gloomy atmosphere from the very first moment. Unfortunately, the production fails to sustain this carefully built tension until the end. The result is an entertaining but ultimately predictable thriller that ends up falling somewhere in the middle of the pack.

After the sudden death of his wife, Tom decides to move with his young son Jake to the quiet town of Featherbank. They hope to make a fresh start there. However, for decades the town has been haunted by the shadow of a notorious serial  killer known as The Whisper Man. When another boy goes missing and Jake begins to hear strange voices by his bedroom window, it becomes painfully clear that the danger is far from over. Tom must do everything in his power to protect his son from an elusive evil.

“The Whisper man” excels in cinematography and atmosphere; the somber visuals and ominous soundtrack immediately get under your skin. A definite highlights is Michael Keaton’s strong, albeit small, role. He commands attention in every scene and brings much-needed depth to the story. Michaelle Monaghan is also very solid as detective Amanda Beck.

For the seasoned thriller fan, the plot is too predictable, which allowed me to correctly predict the culprit’s identity very early on in the story. This takes the edge off the final and makes the climax rather clichéd. It’s an atmospheric, easy-to-watch film, with a great performance by Michael Keaton, but without any real surprises. I still enjoyed it and would recommend it though.

Movie Review - Toy Story 5

Director:
McKenna Harris, Andrew Stanton
Genre: Animation/ Family/ Drama
Runtime: 102 minutes
Year: 2026
Starring: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Conan O’Brien, Greta Lee, Bonnie Hunt, Wallace Shawn, Kristen Schaal, Ernie Hudson, John Ratzenberger

Description: Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack) and the rest of the gang’s jobs are challenged when they’re introduced to electronics, a new threat to playtime.

Review: When Pixar announced that a fifth “Toy Story” film was in the works, the film world reacted with a healthy dose of skepticism. After the emotional and perfect farewell in the third installment, and the surprisingly strong epilogue in the fourth, it really seemed like the series had run its course. With “Toy Story 5”, however, directors Andrew Stanton and McKenna Harris prove the opposite. The film manages to tackle relevant, modern themes without losing the nostalgic spirit of the franchise.

In “Toy Story 5”, Bonnie struggles with a universal modern problem: the allure of the digital screen. Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the gang are pushed into the background by tablets, smartphones, and high-tech VR headsets. When Bonnie’s favorite new gadget becomes infected with a malicious computer virus, her digital world is in danger of crashing. To save their child’s memories and happiness, the toys must literally travel into the digital world. There, they face an army of forgotten tech-toys and a glitchy, manipulative AI villain.

The greatest compliment “Toy Story 5” deserves is how cleverly it handles the concept of toys in today’s world. While the earlier films revolved around growing up and letting go, this installment tackles the struggle between tangible nostalgia and the all-powerful screen time. The transition to the digital world within the film brings a fresh dynamic. Pixar uses this scenario to showcase breathtaking animation techniques. The contrast between the warm, tactile textures of the classic toys and the neon-lit, sometimes eerily perfect digital environment are visually masterful.

As always, the humor is multi-layered. There are quick, physical jokes for younger viewers and sharp, satirical jabs at tech culture for adults. The introduction of outdated video game consoles and crashed software avatars, provides some hilarious moments. I especially loved Smarty Pants, voiced by Conan O’Brien. The reunion between Woody and Buzz remains the emotional anchor of the film.

“Toy Story 5” isn’t just another cash-grab, but a loving and much-needed reflection of what play means today.

Movie Review - Hoppers

Director:
Daniel Chong
Genre: Animation/ Family/ Adventure
Runtime: 104 minutes
Year: 2026
Starring: Piper Curda, Bobby Moyhnihan, Jon Hamm, Kathy Najimy, Dave Franco, Eduardo Franco, Melissa Villaseñor, Sam Richardson, Isiah Whitlock Jr.,

Description: A 19-year-old animal lover (Piper Curda) uses technology that places her consciousness into a robotic beaver to uncover mysteries within the animal world beyond her imagination.

Review: With “Hoppers”, director Daniel Chong delivers one of the studio’s funniest and most animated films in years. While recent films sometimes buckle under the weight of heavy emotional themes, this production resolutely opts for a fresh blend of absurdist humor and a classic ecological adventure.

When the grandmother of 19-year-old Mable, an impulsive anima rights activist, passes away, their favorite nature reserve is threatened with destruction by the corrupt mayor Jerry. He wants to build a highway. To stop the construction, Mabel enlists the help of a secret experimental government project: she has her consciousness “hop” into the body of an ultra-realistic robot beaver. She quickly infiltrates the local beaver colony to join forces with the animals against the bulldozers.

As soon as Mabel takes on the form of a beaver, the film shifts into high gear. “Hoppers” excels at visual comedy. The animation style is cute, combined with lush landscapes that proof Pixar is still technically at the very top.

Jon Hamm steals the show as the vain, power-hungry mayor, flanked by Bobby Moynihan’s great voice-performance as George the beaver. But it’s Piper Curda who carries the film: her portrayal of Mabel as a hyperactive, steadfast teenager with a big heart makes the character instantly memorable. I loved Mabel.

“Hoppers” is Pixar at its best: a wild, inventive and funny adventure. It’s the successful return of the studio’s roots, one that will effortlessly entertain the entire family.

Movie Review - The Testament of Ann Lee

Director:
Mona Fastvold
Genre: Drama/ Musical
Runtime: 136 minutes
Year: 2026
Starring: Amanda Seyfried, Lewis Pullman, Thomasin McKenzie, Tim Blake Nelson

Description: Ann Lee (Amanda Seyfried), the founding leader of the Shaker Movement, is proclaimed as the female Christ by her followers. This film depicts her establishment of an utopian society and the Shakers’ worship through song and dance, based on real events.

Review: With “The Testament of Ann Lee”, director Mona Fastvold delivers an extremely ambitious, feverish biopic that walks the line between historical drama and avant-garde musical. Although the film is visually stunning and pushes the boundaries of the genre, its emotional depth unfortunately leaves the viewer at a distance.
The film tells the true story of Ann Lee, an 18th century woman from industrial Manchester. After the traumatic loss of her young children and a troubled marriage, she finds spiritual enlightenment within a radical religious movement. She emerges as the visionary leader of the Shakers, a cult that believes in absolute celibacy, pacifism, and radical gender equality. Her followers even regard her as the female incarnation of Christ. To escape severe persecution, Lee sets sail with her loyal followers to the American colonies to found a utopian community there. Their devotion and the absolution of sins are expressed not through traditional sermons, but in frenzied, ecstatic singing and group dances that border on a physical trance.

The absolute highlight is the way the Shaker hymns are brought to life. And Amanda Seyfried delivers a phenomenal, physically intense performance; her animated gaze and vocals effortlessly carry the film through even the most abstract scene.

Despite these mesmerizing elements, the film falls short dramatically. The film is repetitive, and has an episodic structure. And there is a psychological barrier, because as a viewer we observing Ann Lee, but they never truly dissect her. You admire the craftmanship on screen, but the characters leave you emotionally unmoved. The characters remain underdeveloped. And the 136 minute runtime is very palpable, it’s way too long. And in this time they could have done a lot more with the characters.

“The Testament of Ann Lee” is a daring and visually breathtaking experiment that uniquely turns the biopic formula inside out. However, those hoping for a gripping emotional drama or an in-depth character study may leave this utopian journey feeling somewhat unsatisfied.  As a highly emotional person myself, this movie did very little for me.

Movie Review - How to Make a Killing

Director:
John Patton Ford
Genre: Crime/ Comedy
Runtime: 106 minutes
Year: 2026
Starring: Glen Powell, Margareth Qualley, Jessica Henwick, Ed Harris

Description: Disowned at birth by his obscenely wealthy family, blue-collar Becket Redfellow (Glen Powell) will stop at nothing to reclaim his inheritance, no matter how many relatives stand in his way.

Review: “How to Make a Killing” is a dark crime comedy that starts off incredibly promising but, unfortunately, completely falls flat in the end.

The story follows Becket Redfellow, played by a charming Glen Powell, a blue-collar worker who was disowned at birth by his wealthy family. Driven by revenge and pure greed, he hatches a cold-blooded murder plot to systematically eliminate the seven family members standing between him and his billion-dollar inheritance.

The film gets off to an incredibly promising start; the opening is packed with razor-sharp black humor, is incredibly entertaining, and is a delight to watch from the very first minute. Director John Patton Ford perfectly captures the tone of a vicious social critique in the first hour, allowing the viewer to effortlessly get swept up in the protagonist’s absurd plans.

Unfortunately, the film takes a completely different turn in the second half when the tone suddenly shifts to a much more serious crime drama. Because of this change in direction, the script loses the satirical edge that made the first half so strong and unique, causing the pace to slow down and the characters to lose their vibrancy.

What really brings the experience down, however, is the climax. The ending is implausible and too easy and I simply didn’t like it.

“How to Make a Killing” is an entertaining movie and the first hour is a joy to watch, but eventually fails to live up to its full potential due to a weak finale.

Movie Review - Enola Holmes 3

Director:
Philip Barantini
Genre: Adventure/ Comedy/ Action
Runtime: 105 minutes
Year: 2026
Starring: Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter, Himesh Patel, Louis Partridge, Sharon Duncan-Brewster

Description: Detective Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown) heads to Malta, where her aspirations merge in her most complex and dangerous case yet.

Review: This third installment has lost some of its charm. While the first two films were fresh, energetic, and full of surprises, “Enola Holmes 3” unfortunately feels like a rehash. It lacks the spark and sharpness that made the earlier adventures so entertaining.

This time, the story shifts to sunny Malta, where Enola is about to marry her true love, Lord Tewkesbury. However, her doubt about the marriage are abruptly interrupted when it turns out that her brother Sherlock has vanished without a trace. What follows is a chaotic quest filled with kidnappings and hidden treasures, in which Enola must once again unravel a complex mystery to save her brother.

The biggest problem is the script. This murder-and-kidnapping mystery is far less compelling and more predictable than before. Whereas the fantastic second installment (my favorite in the series) excelled in a clever plot, political intrigue, and a great pace, this adventure in Malta just kind of plods along. Moreover, the dynamic between Enola and Sherlock lacks the spark that made the previous installments so strong. Millie Bobby Brown, however, remains a joy to watch. Her acting is still full of energy, and the moments when she breaks the fourth wall to address the audience remain entertaining. But the material she has to work with this time around is simply lacking.

“Enola Holmes 3” is still entertaining and it’s not a bad movie, but it’s a clear step back compared to its predecessors. And it definitely never comes close to the second movie.

Movie Review - Mortal Kombat II

Director:
Simon McQuoid
Genre: Action/ Adventure/ Fantasy
Runtime: 116 minutes
Year: 2026
Starring: Karl Urban, Adelie Rudolph, Martyn Ford, Tati Gabrielle, Jessica McNamee, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Josh Lawson, Hiroyuki Sanada

Description: The fan favorite champions, now joined by Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) himself, are pitted against one another in the ultimate battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.

Review: “Mortal Kombat II” attempts to correct the mistakes of its 2021 predecessor by going all-in on pure tournament chaos, but unfortunately gets bogged down in a muddy stream of soulless computer-generated effects and a virtually nonexistent script.

The story picks up where the invasion of Eathrealm left off. Cole Young and the remaining protectors travel to Outworld to recruit allies, including the arrogant movie star Johnny Cage. However, they are immediately lured into a trap by the tyrannical Shao Kahn, who organizes an illegal, decisive tournament to subjugate Earth once and for all. With this premise, director Simon McQuoid delivers a film that, unfortunately, feels like a two-hour, exhausting string of cinematic fights without a shred of dramatic impact. Karl Urban is the highlight, as Johnny Cage, with his weary Hollywood charisma. And if you are a fan of hack-and-slash action you are in for a treat, as the film fully lives up to its R-rating. The iconic fatalities from the games are brought to life with plenty of blood and spectacle.

However, as soon as the characters stop fighting and start talking, the film collapses like a house of cards. The plot surrounding Shao Kahn’s tournament is paper0thin and serves purely as a pretext for action, resulting in wooden dialogue and forced explanatory scenes.

Ultimately, the film lacks real tension. Because death is meaningless in this universe and characters are just as easily brought back to life, the emotional stakes during the mission to save Earth are nonexistent. “Mortal Kombat II” offers plenty of mindless entertainment and bloodshed for the hardcore games, but as a movie, it’s a messy, noisy, and soulless product. Take me back to the “Mortal Kombat” movie from 1995 please.

Movie Review - The Odyssey

Director:
Christopher Nolan
Genre: Action/ Adventure/ Fantasy
Runtime: 173 minutes
Year: 2026
Starring: Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson, John Leguizamo, Samantha Morton, Elliot Page, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, Lupita Nyong’o

Description: After the Trojan War, Odysseus (Matt Damon) faces a dangerous voyage back to Ithaca, meeting creatures like Cyclops Polyphemus, Sirens and Calypso (Charlize Theron) along the way

Review: With the latest adaptation of “The Odyssey”, director Christopher Nolan proves that classical Greek mythology can still be relevant, and , above all, spectacular. The film has become a visual and narrative masterpiece that relentlessly draws the viewer into an emotional battle of attrition for almost 3 hours. The end result is a grand cinematic experience that balances human drama with mythological action.

“The Odyssey” follows the heroic yet disastrous journey of the Greek king Odysseus, who, after the fall of Troy, tries to find his way back home. While his faithful wife Penelope fights off intrusive suitors at home, Odysseus braves deadly monsters, divine curses, and psychological trials on the raging seas to save his kingdom.

The film excels in its cinematography and set design. The wild, unpredictable seas and the terrifying encounters with mythical creatures are brought to life with a perfect balance of practical effect and CGI. Nolan modernizes Homer’s source material without losing the epic’s authentic, tragic atmosphere.
The prominent American accents of the main cast feels quite out of place in a historical Greet setting at the beginning. The dialect distracted me and felt weird. Fortunately, this was short-lived, after a while it didn’t bother me as much. The performances are so intense and believable that the accent quickly fades into the background.

With this star-studded cast, there is a lot to look for. The performances are very strong and Matt Damon has the difficult task to lead them in this epic adventure film. But he succeeds. But it is Anne Hathaway and Samantha Morton in particular who elevate this film by carrying the emotional core. While the visual spectacle dominates the action, these two actresses provide the much-needed psychological depth and humanity. Anne Hathaway shines thanks to her phenomenal transformation. She commands all the attention with her intense gaze and emotional range. She strikes the perfect balance between royal dignity and the raw, fragile despair of a character tormented by fate. Samantha Morton steals the show with her rock-solid, understated presence. Without resorting to melodrama, she brings a layered gravitas to the screen, in only a single scene. This all shows that “The Odyssey is not just another blockbuster, but also a memorable character-driven drama.

The second part of the film was the strongest. Is focusses more on the character’s internal struggles and the bitter reality of returning home. The cinematography becomes grimmer, the soundtrack gains depth, and the film builds at a perfect pace toward a breathtaking and emotional climax. “The Odyssey” is thus not only a visual spectacle but also a profoundly human epic that leaves an indelible impression.

Movie Review - The Drama

Director:
Kristoffer Borgli
Genre: Comedy/ Drama/ Romance
Runtime: 105 minutes
Year: 2026
Starring: Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Alana Haim, Mamoudou Athie, Hailey Gates, Sydney Lemmon, Hannah Gross

Description: A happily-engaged couple (Robert Pattinsong, Zendaya) is put to the test when an unexpected turn sends their wedding week off the rails.

Review: “The Drama” is a film that will continue to haunt your mind long after the credits roll, though whether you’ll find that a pleasant experience is another matter.

Charlie and Emma are happily engaged, preparing for their wedding. But when Emma shares something about her past, the week before their wedding becomes a big challenge.

The film strikes a perfect balance on the fine line between a cinematic masterpiece and a pure test of the viewer’s endurance. The film is best described as a pitch-black comedy laced with extremely disturbing situations. The humor is so sharp and painful that laughter repeatedly gets stuck in your throat. The director and cast succeed in constantly confronting the audience with complex moral dilemmas, in which there is no clear moral winner to be identified. As a viewer, you’re forced to question your own ethical compass, which makes the themes incredibly powerful. At the same time, this is a very uncomfortable film to watch. The vicarious embarrassment, the underlying tension, and the moral decay creep so deeply under your skin that it feels suffocating at times.

There is especially one scene, that feels like an actual dumpster fire. And the longer it burns, the worst it gets. And you can’t watch it, but also can’t look away. If you have seen the movie, you know which scene I mean.

It’s an impressive piece of cinema, but the emotional toll is high. Precisely because of the intense, uncomfortable atmosphere, I’ll probably never watch this film again. It’s powerful experience that you absolutely must see, but one you’ll be glad to leave behind afterward.
