Best & Worst: Bruce Willis

A lot of people don’t consider Bruce Willis a good actor, but I think he has proven many times that he is very good indeed. He is actually one of my favorites, not only in action movies. I enjoy his movies, his performances and he has done some really good movies. Here are my best and worst pick.

His most memorable movie and character! When I think of Bruce Willis and when I have to name one action movie, “Die Hard” is the one. The best he made and my favorite. Probably not the most surprising choice.
Honorable Mentions: “Sin City”, “Die Hard with a Vengeance”, “Moonrise Kingdom”, “The Sixth Sense”, “Unbreakable”, “Pulp Fiction”, “Twelve Monkeys”, “The Fifth Element”, “Looper”

The one that made him famous was “Die Hard, but this fifth instalment was what killed the franchise. This movie is so bad, John McClane doesn’t even get into a fight here. It’s terrible! And the bad guy is tap dancing while eating a carrot. Well….. It sucks.
Dishonorable Mentions: "Hudson Hawk", "Charlie Angels: Full Throttle", "Color of Night", "Mortal Thoughts"

Best & Worst: Matthew McConaughey

I used to hate Matthew McConaughey as an actor, but the past years he has delivered and proved he has serious acting chops. It’s also his choice of film nowadays and the fabulous performance he delivered in the TV show “True Detective”. Here are my best and worst picks.

A movie that doesn’t have a lot of action or spectacle, but it has the great performance by Matthew McConaughey. When you read the synopsis, it’s not that interesting so this movie really took me by surprise. It’s really good!
Honorable Mentions: “Dallas Buyers Club”, “The Lincoln Lawyer”, “A Time to Kill”, “Killer Joe”, “Amistad”, “Contact”

One of those stupid, dumb, cheesy, predictable romantic comedies. I hate this movie and the fact that Jennifer Lopez is in it has nothing to do with that hate. At all (*sarcasm*). Even then, in the time McConaughey mostly did movies like this, he deserved better.
Dishonorable Mentions: “Failure to Launch”, “Fool’s Gold”, “Two For the Money”

Best & Worst: Tom Hardy

Tom Hardy keeps making great movies and has only a very few big misses. Here are my picks for Tom Hardy’s best and worst movies.

You would think it’s just another fighting movie, but it’s not. A has deeper layers, fantastic performances and great music. I love “Warrior”, it breaks my heart every time.
Honorable Mentions: “Mad Max Fury Road”, “The Drop”, “Locke”, “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy”, “Bronson”, “Inception”, “The Dark Knight Rises”, “Layer Cake”

I still don’t know what Tom Hardy is doing in this film. First off all, I’m not a Reese Whiterspoon fan and why does she get to date both Tom Hardy and Chris Pine? And this film is super cheesy and unfunny. I would like to forget about this movie, I saw it on an airplane once.

Best & Worst: Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman is a very diverse actor and he has a lot of good movies. Sadly he also made some shitty ones. Here are my best and worst film of Hugh Jackman.

This movie really took my breath away when I first saw it and especially Jackman’s performance is mesmerizing. Such a fantastic film that really got under my skin. I recommended it to a bunch of people after seeing it, and they all agreed.
Honorable Mentions: “The Prestige”, “X2”, “X-Men: First Class”

Jackman has balls hanging from his face. Come on! I can’t believe he agreed to do this. I can’t believe any of the actors did, because this is probably one of the worst movies ever made!
Dishonorable Mentions: “Swordfish”, “Kate & Leopold”

Best & Worst: Arnold Schwarzenegger

He may not be the best actor in the world, be Arnold Schwarzenegger is one hell of an entertaining guy. He has quite a few bad flicks, but also many great and memorable movies. Here are my picks for best and worst Arnold Schwarzenegger movies.

Probably not the most surprising pick, but it’s just the truth. “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” is an awesome movie, a movie that can even make the tough guys cry. Schwarzenegger is the perfect actor for this role and he nails it!
Honorable Mentions: “Total Recall”, “Predator”, “True Lies”, “Last Action Hero”, “The Running Man”, “The Terminator”

Well, it is in fact one of the worst movies ever made. Nothing makes sense in this movies, not even Arnie’s well known one-liners. And he was really trying to make it good, it’s just isn’t
Dishonorable Mentions: “Junior”

Best & Worst: Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt really doesn’t have many bad movies. She is a very good actress and she chooses her movies wisely.

I didn’t expect much, but “Edge of Tomorrow” really surprised me. It’s a great action/ science fiction movie and Emily Blunt proofs she can be kick-ass! It’s a movie that keeps your attention at all times and is very exciting.
Honorable Mentions: “Sunshine Cleaning”, “Into the Woods”, “The Muppets”, “The Jane Austen Book Club”, “Looper”

I don’t remember much of the movie, that’s already a bad signs, but I do remember that it wasn’t all that great. Not because of Emily Blunt though. It’s just one of those typically silly movies, that just can’t succeed.

Best & Worst: Matt Damon

I really like Matt Damon. He looks like an average guy and is down to earth. But when he starts acting, he blows us all away. Damon is talented and has made some great films. Here are my choices for best and worst Matt Damon movies.

This movie is incredible. Okay, the ending was different from its original, but still it’s a great film. I liked Matt Damon in the bad guy role, the mole, the snitch.
Honorable Mentions: “The Bourne Identity”, “Good Will Hunting”, “Invictus”, “The Bourne Ultimatum”, “True Grit”

Not even all that bad, but towards the end the movie lost its credibility. It could have been a lot better. Matt Damon doesn’t have a lot of stinkers.
Dishonorable Mentions: “Ocean’s Thirteen”, “The Good Shepherd”

Best & Worst: Sandra Bullock

Of all the actresses on my favorites list, Sandra Bullock has probably been on there the longest. I just love her natural way of performing. Movie are better because of her. Bullock has a certain charm you just can't ignore. Here are my choices for best and worst movie of Sandra Bullock.

We just pretend there never was a sequel to this amazing action movie. Why is “Speed” so good? Because, after even watching it so many times, it still has the tension. Fun fact: the first time I saw this film was on a bus vacation to Spain.
Honorable Mentions: “The Net”, “The Blind Side”, “A Time to Kill”, “Demoltion Man”

This is a true abomination, what is she doing here? Even bad actors shouldn’t be apart of this film. Yuck…
Dishonorable Mentions: “Speed 2: Cruise Control”

Best & Worst: Gary Oldman

I think Gary Oldman picks his roles very carefully, because he doesn’t have a lot of bad movies.

This is one gem, directed by Luc Besson. It’s a great story, but with three amazing performances. Off course Jean Reno and Natalie Portman shine, but Gary Oldman is really creepy and convincing as the villain. Honorable Mentions: “True Romance”, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”, “The Fifth Element”, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”, “Batman Begins”, “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”

A very recent movie. And it wasn’t because of him, Oldman was probably the best bit of the film. “Paranoia” just didn’t do it for me. It was boring.
Dishonorable Mentions: “Red Riding Hood”

Best & Worst: Steve Carell

He got his fame for his role in “The Office” which is one of the best comedy shows ever. Later Steve Carell got a lot of lead roles in comedies and even in more dramatic movies he proved he had what it takes. Here are my picks for best and worst of Steve Carell.

How could I not go with this. “Little Miss Sunshine” is one of my all-time favorites and every time I watch it, it puts a big smile on my face. The movie literally makes me feel better. All the great characters, so quirky together, and that cool, yellow van that they are driving. And Steve’s characters Frank is just so sad, yet loveable.
Honorable Mentions: “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy”, “The Way Way Back”, “Despicable Me”, The 40 Year Old Virgin”

It’s a spin-off movie, because Carell already played this characters in “Bruce Almighty”. That one I liked, but “Evan Almighty” isn’t that good. It’s not a total stinker though, but it’s not Carell’s finest moment.
Dishonorable Mentions: “Dinner for Schmucks”

Best & Worst: Cameron Diaz

I really love Cameron Diaz, she is funny and she can light up a room. And she also dares to cross a line. Lately, her choices for movies and roles aren’t that great, but that’s a good reason to look back on all the movies she made. Here are my pick for best and worst of Cameron Diaz.

This is still one of the best comedies ever made. Although it was a bit raunchy, it really made me laugh. And it still does. Cameron Diaz was really great, I think every guy was in love with her after seeing this film (hence the title). But I had a crush on Ben Stiller, as cutie Ted with no like on his side.
Honorable Mentions: “Being John Malkovich”, “Gangs of New York”, “The Mask”, “Shrek”, “My Best Friend’s Wedding”, “Very Bad Things”

Christina Applegate was the only fun thing about this movie. I hate this so-called comedy. It’s not funny and his has bad jokes in it. Cameron, shame on you!
Dishonarable Mentions: “What to Expect When You’re Expecting”, “What Happens in Vegas”, “Vanilla Sky”, Knight & Day”

Best & Worst: Rachel McAdams

Rachel McAdams is one of my favourite actresses. She entertains me every single time and Rachel has a lot of good movies and not so many bad ones. Here are my picks for best & worst of Rachel McAdams.

I would actually go for “Midnight in Paris”, but I didn’t pick it because I already went with it when I discussed Owen Wilson. And because I loved her role more in “About Time”. I was totally surprised when I watched this film, because I thought it was going to be just another time travel film. Would I got was an honest and lovely movie that I fell in love with. I like it equally as much as “Midnight in Paris” actually!
Honorable Mentions: “Midnight in Paris”, “Red Eye”, “Sherlock Holmes”, “The Notebook”, “The Time Traveller’s Wife”

It’s not a total stinker, she doesn’t really have any of those, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as her other films. It’s maybe a bit to stereotypical and cliché for my liking.
Dishonorable Mentions: “The Hot Chick”

Best & Worst: Christian Bale

Christian Bale is one of the best actors of his generation. I’ve admired his dedication to his roles. He can really get lost in the role he plays. Here is my choice of best & worst of Christian Bale.

He was only a kid, but already we could see how talented he was. Thank goodness Christian Bale wasn’t just another child star. This movie is so touching and captivating, Bale steals every scene he’s in.
Honorable Mentions: “The Prestige”, “American Psycho”, “The Machinist”, “Equilibrium”

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not because of Christian Bale. This movie is bad because Nicholas Cage had an off day, his accent…. Ugh. And Penelope Cruz also didn’t really put in any effort. Not a movie to be proud of Christian!

Best & Worst: Keira Knightley

Keira Knightley is a fantastic actress, very pure and solid. She hasn’t starred in anything memorable for a while, but she is in “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” which came out earlier this year. Here is my choice of best & worst of Keira Knightley.

As you might know it’s based on my favourite book and there are many versions of this story. But this is my favourite one of them all. Keira Knightley is the perfect Elizabeth Bennet, just like I imagined her in my head while reading the novel.
Honorable Mentions: “Atonement”

It sounded good, just the movie for Keira. But instead it was one of the most boring stories ever. Everything that happened in this movie, happened a couple of times, like I was in “Groundhog Day”. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t Keira to blame. Just simply the story, it was one giant snooze fest.
Dishonorable Mentions: “The Hole”

Best & Worst: Joseph Gordon-Levitt

I don't celebrate valentine's day, but I wouldn't mind him as my valentine: Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He had a good start when he was a teen, but he has made his big break in the 2000’s. And I’m so happy with him! He has starred in a lot of good movies since then. Here is my choice of best & worst of Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

I liked this just a tiny bit more then “(500) Days of Summer”. I love the fact that this movie is about such a tough theme, but it’s brought to us with such subtlety and wit. Joseph Gordon-Levitt gives away such an honest performance, I love him together with Anna Kendrick and Seth Rogen.
Honorable mentions: “(500) Days of Summer”, “Inception”, “10 Things I Hate About You”, “Looper”, “Don Jon”, “The Lookout”

I have to be honest that the only reason I watched this movie was Joseph. And half of the movie you don’t even see his face. Terrible.

Best & Worst: Naomi Watts

Naomi Watts is a brilliant actress, who can hardly ever do anything wrong. So I’m not sure if I can pick a worst. But I have to, so I will. She is my favourite and here is my choice of best & worst Naomi Watts movie.

This is the movie that introduced me to her. Since then I wanted to see everything with Naomi Watts in it. She plays such a fragile role, so sublime! It’s that my other favourite Charlize Theron took home the Academy Award that year, but it’s definitely an oscar worthy performance. This movie is such a masterpiece.
Honorable mentions: “King Kong”, Mulholland Drive”, “The Impossible”, “The Painted Veil”

A very disappointed movie, not a lot happened here. Naomi Watts didn’t get enough screen time, maybe that’s why I didn’t like it. The plot sounded more interesting then the actual movie eventually was.
Dishonorable mentions: “Movie 43” (This seemed like the easy choice, because no one likes it)

Best & Worst: Kevin Costner

Back in the days he was actually one of my movie heroes. If you got him as your leading man, you got a solid movie. But nowadays he has to be happy with a supporting role. Here is my choice for best & worst Kevin Costner movie.

It’s very long, but anything but dull. It’s a fantastic movie, which Kevin Costner also directed. Here he show how great of an actor he actually is.
Honourable mentions: “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves”, “Field of Dreams”, “JFK”

This is the proof that Kevin Costner was on his way back. I can’t believe he agreed on participating in this movie. I mean, I love Jennifer Aniston, but it’s a weird combination. Costner is too good for this. Oh yeah, to make it even worse, his name in this movie was Beau. God…
Dishonorable mentions: “The Postman”

Best & Worst: Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson breaths sex appeal. She is hot and she doesn’t even have to try. But she is also a fantastic actress, whom I come to love over the years. Not many would agree with me, because she is criticized a lot. I think mostly by women who are just jealous. Here is my choice for best & worst Scarlett Johansson movie.

I think we all saw this coming. “Lost in Translation” is such a beautifully made movie, very simple but that its power. Very well written and directed and great performances by both Scarlett and Bill Murray. Can’t get enough of this movie.
Honorable mentions: “The Prestige”, “The Avengers”

I remember when it came out I was dying to see it. When I finally did, I was so disappointed. It wasn’t necessarily bad, but just not so good. At least not worth Scarlett Johansson’s time.

Best & Worst: Leonardo DiCaprio

When he first started he was the boyish actor all girls loved. Now he has made a name and he is one of the most loved actors in Hollywood, by men and women. His movies became better over the years. Here is my choice for best & worst Leonardo DiCaprio movie.

I have seen this movie many times, I almost always watch it when it’s on TV and it never seems to bore me. It’s an incredible true story and DiCaprio’s performance is great.
Honorable mentions: “The Departed”, “Inception”, “Django Unchained”, “Shutter Island”, “Blood Diamond”

I’m sorry people, but I think this is one of the most overrated movies ever. I just can’t stand this movie. Because DiCaprio has made so many great movies after this, I forgive him for “Titanic”. I can’t believe it has won 11 Academy awards, it’s too long and it has the worst promise ever in it. “I’ll never let go” and then seconds later she lets Jack go and he sinks to the bottom of the ocean.
Dishonorable Mentions: “The Beach”

Best & Worst: Owen Wilson

I came up with a new item. I pick the best and the worst of someone/ something. It’ll be about movies and tv most of the time, but maybe I can come up with some other themes.

For me Owen Wilson always had this certain charm I couldn’t go around. I love this dude! I like the calmness in his voice, his subtle and smart humor and how he can win over the audience. Here is my choice for best & worst Owen Wilson movie.

I have stated my love for this movie many times already. Owen Wilson is capable of portraying the likeable and witty daydreamer Gil Pender. This is actually one of the nicest male movie characters. Not everybody likes Woody Allen’s work, but this is simply fantastic!
Honorable mentions: “Marley & Me”, “Fantastic Mr. Fox”, “Shanghai Noon”

I really don’t like this one. I hated it the first time I saw it and swore to myself never to watch it again. I know it’s a movie not to be taken too seriously, but still. It’s awefull!
Dishonorable mentions: “Anaconda”
