Oscar Predictions 2015

I'm going to give it a shot again. Today the nominees for the 87th annual Academy Awards were announced and I've been predicting the winners for a couple of years now. So this year is no different. Some really great nominees this year, but as usual I don't agree with every all the winners. So, here are my prediction on who will win and who I think should win the awards.

I saw the Academy Awards last night and I Always love to watch this glitter & glamour evening. This is the only night that I allow myself to feel a bit of hedonism. It's been a while since I've done a pic spam (december!) and I decided to do something new. So I'm going to share some pictures from last night's Academy Awards. My favorite stars, moments, shots, you name it.

Top 5 Thursday: Oscar 2013 Wins

I love the Oscars, always look forward to them. I also try to predict every year, but I didn't do that great this year. I loved the host (I heart Seth MacFarlane) and I did see some great wins. Here are my favorite wins of the 2013 Oscars.

5. "Brave" winning Best Animated Feature Film of the Year
If a Disney movie is nominated, it will most likely win. I love "Brave", like practically every other Disney movie. Deserved!

4. Jennifer Lawrenve winning Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role
Although I was hoping for my favorite Naomi Watts and thinking it was going to be Jessica Chastain, I was so happy for Jennifer Lawrence. And felt so bad for her that she fell, but if I had just won an Oscar I wouldn't give a damn. And that speech was so touching and a bit awkward.

3. Daniel Day-Lewis winning Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
What a fabulous actor he is. He is the first actor to win three Academy Awards. I haven't seen "Lincoln" yet, but just a little clip tells me how great his performance is.

2. Quentin Tarantino winning Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen
I was hoping he would be nominated for the best director award, because that's what he really deserves. But he so deserved this one as well. Tarantino is an awesome screenwriter and he's so unique. No one is like this guy.

1. Christoph Waltz winning Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role
How amazing is this. Five years ago nobody outside Germany and Austria had heard from this guy and now he wins his second Academy Award. I loved him as Dr. King Schultz in "Django Unchained". It was totally unexpected though, because I really thought Tommy Lee Jones was going to win.

I'm going to predict the winners for this years Oscars again. Again a though year, but I'm pretty sure about the leading actor and supporting actress. The rest was just guessing. I have no idea! Oscar Predictions 2012

I'm going to predict the winners for this years Oscars again. A though year, because of all the different winners during all the other award ceremonies. I'm only pretty sure about the supporting actor/ actress category. Here is my list of who should and would win this year.

I'm looking forward to the show, because Billy Crystal is returning as a host. It's already a garantuee for an entertaining night.

Best Actors/ Actresses That Never Got an Oscar Nomination

Untill last sunday, Christian Bale would be on that list, but he finally got some recognition. So there's still hope for the actors and actresses in this list. Great ones that never got nominated for this award.

Kevin Bacon
He's a very good actor, but most of the time he's the supporting actor in the film. So I can understand why he gets overlooked. He did some great films like "Apollo 13", "Mystic River", "JFK" and "A Few Good Men".

Scarlett Johansson
She was nominated for a Golden Globe four times already, so there's something she's doing well, but not well enough for the Academy Awards appearantly. I loved her in "Lost in Translation" and what about "The Girl with the Pearl Earring", "A Lovesong for Bobby Long", "Ghostworld" and "Match Point".

Steve Buscemi
He’s kind of a briljant actor, so underrated. He did get nominations for other awards for his roles in “Ghost World” and “Reservoir Dogs”, but never an Oscar.

Jim Carrey
He’s one of the funniest men on the planet and I think some people don’t take him seriousley. But he did play some very strong roles. “Man on the Moon”, The Truman Show” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”.

John Cusack
I’m so mad for this. He’s my third favorite actor of all time and he never gets the credit for the good work he does. Come on, he was briljant in “High Fidelity” and what about “Being John Malkovich” or “Grace is Gone”, a movie that probably no one even saw. Very, very good actor.

Emily Blunt
I think her role in “The Devil Wears Prada” was fantastic and what about “Young Victoria”, My Summer of Love” and “Sunshine Cleaning”. Good acting.

Ashley Judd
I love Ashley. She so deserves to get some appreciation. “Kiss the Girls” was amazing and she was good in “De-Lovely” and “Double Jeopardy”.

Bruce Willis
Alone for being John McClane they should give him a Oscarnomination. He’s awesome. But he was also very good in “The Sixth Sense” and “Twelve Monkeys”.

Gary Oldman
“JFK’, “The Contender” and “Bram Stoker’s Dracula”. All honorable mentions that could have given him a nomination.

Academy Awards 2011

I'm one of those people that loves awardshows like this, even though I'm not glamorous at all. And I always like to predict, like I did on my blog after the nominees were announced. Like every year the show has its highlights and its downsides. Here are mine:

{Highlights}

- The opening, where Anne Hathaway and James Franco enter Alec Baldwin's dream and travel through this years nominees. Very funny, especially the dance of the brown duck and the speech Anne gives. I also liked Morgan Freeman's appearance and how Baldwin said 'you got inceptioned'. And their dialogue was also fun, with the lesbian joke and how Franco got nominated and Anne didn't.
- Franco's grandma saying she just saw Marky Mark.
- Christian Bale winning for "The Fighter". I knew he was going to get it, but still. His speech was truly genuine and touching, especially at the end when he tried to thank his wife. Bale finally got recognition for his work.
- Natalie Portman winning for "Black Swan". Also not a surprise but she deserved it.
- Anne's song, about Hugh Jackman who stood her up when she wanted to do another duet with him. Hilarious. And I did like James Franco in drag, when he told us he got a text from Charlie Sheen. For most people that wasn't funny.
- Kirk Douglas presenting, he's still alive!!
- Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law presenting. They are a magnificent duo and so funny. They know how to make people laugh.
- "Inception" winning some awards, that most people will probably forget about, but they did get awards!!
- "Toy Story 3" winning for Best animated feature. You can't ignore Disney.
- Billy Crystal, funny as ever. He kinda stole the show here.
- Sandra Bullock presenting. She just lights up a room.
- Anne Hathaway and James Franco. Although Anne looked a little bit more natural and comedic than James (I don't mind watching him for a couple of hours, no matter what he does. Come on, that smile!), they were a fun duo and they did a good job presenting the Oscars.

{Downsides}

- James Franco not winning for "127 Hours". Well Colin Firth sure knows how to pick his roles. A King with a speaking ability, that's what the academy likes. And lets face it, men under 40 hardly ever get academy awards for their roles.
- "Inception" not winning best picture. I think this movie was to complicated for the academy, because they're probably all like 90.
- "The King's Speech" winning so many awards. It's sure a good movie, but not THAT good.
- The auto-tune montage. Wasn't funny at all and did not make sense.

Oscar predictions 2011

Every year I try to predict the Oscar winners. I'm actually pretty good at it, because last year I guessed all the important ones. So, this year I'm going to do it as well. Here's my list of who would and should win.

I'm also looking forward to Anne Hathaway and James Franco hosting. I think they would make a great duo. I saw the promo and it was really funny, so that promises a lot for the show.

And the winner is....ME!!!

I told you that my brother, my parents and I all made a prediction for the Oscars. We only predicted actor, actress, supporting actor, supporting actress, movie and director. All my guesses where right, my brother missed the director category, my dad only got movie and supporting actor and my mom guessed Sandra Bullock (my mom and dad aren't movie experts...).

I'm glad that I won, but not glad with some winners. I think "The Hurt Locker" is a bit overrated, but I understand why The Academy likes it. Iraq is a very up-to-date topic, but not very original. Mo'nique wouldn't be my pick either, because I'm just not a fan. But again I can understand, because we know her as a comedy actress and she shows us a different side of herself. Director, no, not my pick either. For the same reasons as I wouldn't have picked the movie.

Sandra finally being nominated was awesome, her winning it is even more amazing. She really deserves it. So does Jeff Bridges. I can't believe he never won before. If Morgan Freeman had won, I would be happy as well, he's one of my favorites of all time. Christoph Waltz winning was my highlight!!! He really impessed me in "Inglorious Basterds", especially because I didn't know him before.

Oscar predictions 2010

I'm looking forward to the Academy Awards, in march. I always try to predict and this year so are my parents and my brother. It's a competition and it's fun. It's a bit harder this year, because there are 10 nominees in the category Best Movie, but still it's a lot of fun. I still don't understand why they did that, but anyway.Here are my predictions for the bigger categories:

[MOVIE] "The Hurt Locker" (or "Avatar")
[ACTOR] Jeff Bridges for "Crazy Heart"
[ACTRESS] Sandra Bullock for "The Blind Side"
[SUPPORTING ACTOR] Christoph Waltz for "Inglorious Basterds"
[SUPPORTING ACTRESS] Mo'nique for "Precious"
[DIRECTOR] Kathryn Bigalow for "The Hurt Locker"

I'm actually hoping for Jeff, Sandra and Cristoph. For the film and director I'm wishing that finally Tarantino wins an oscar for "Inglorious Basterds", allthough I think he made better movies, he does deserve it anyway. We'll see, we'll see!!!

How it should be

Ingredients for a oscarwinning movie/ perfomance:

- The main character of the movie has e decease or a disability (Like Tom Hanks in "Philadelphia" and "Forrest Gump" and Dustin Hoffman in "Rain Man" and also that guy in "The English Patient")

- The movie has psychos in it (Like Anthony Hopkins in "Silence of the Lambs", Kathy Bates in "Misery" and Heath Ledger in "The Dark Knight")

- It has to take at least three hours (Like "Titanic", "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King", "Dances with Wolves" and "Shindler's List")

- Boob flash or sex scenes (Practically ever movie Kate Winslet was nominated for)

- Gay People (Like Tom Hanks for "Philadelphia" and Sean Penn for "Milk)

- Movies where the actors had to go through an extreme make-over (Like Charlize Theron in "Monster", Robert DeNiro in "Raging Bull" and Hilary Swank in "Boys Don't Cry")

- The characters have a weird accent (Like Tom Hanks in "Forrest Gump", Reese Witherspoon in "Walk the Line" and Frances McDormand in "Fargo")

Movies/ preformances that should have won over the years

- 1995: "The Shawshank Redemption" (my favourite movie) was nominated seven times but didn't win a single award. UNBELIEVABLE!!!

- 1997: Any other movie then "Titanic" should have won. I just hate this movie. "As Good As It Gets", "The Full Monty", "Good Will Hunting" and "L.A. Confidential". They are all better then "Titanic".

- 1997: "Fargo" is a much better and more interesting movie then "The English Patient" (Like Elaine Bennes said in "Seinfeld" : Sex in a tub, that doesn't work!)

- 2001/ 2002: Russell Crowe won an oscar for "Gladiator" and didn't win one for "A Beautiful Mind". That's just weird!

- 2006: Keira Knigtley for "Pride & Prejudice. Much better performance then Reese Witherspoon in "Walk the Line". She really isn't all that good.

- 2007: Abigail Breslin in "Little Miss Sunshine" or Rinko Kikuchi for "Babel". Definitley not Jennifer Hudson. I knew, that after her win, we wouldn't hear from her again (in a movie that is worth watching).

I could go on like this forever, but these are the most important ones I wanted to share with you.

"Slumdog Millionaire"
They deserved it, because I absolutely loved this movie. It's simple, but so inspiring and touching. And Jamal is just a very likeable character.

Best performance by an actor in a leading role:
Sean Penn for "Milk"
I didn't expect that at all. I really tought Micky Rourke would go home with the oscar. But Sean Penn, being one of my favourites, also deserves it. I didn't see "Milk" yet, but I know he plays a wonderfull role.

Best performance by an actress in a leadinr role:
Kate Winslet for "The Reader"
I knew she was going to win, but I was really hoping for Anne Hathaway. I think that Kate was nominated for better movies, this isn't her best role. Anne, by the way, played at her best. So no, I don't think this is the right winner.

Best performance by an actor in a supporting role:
Heath Ledger for "The Dark Knight"
These roles never get nominated, let alone win. His role was great, no doubt about that, but I think it's mostly out of respect for Heath.

Best performance by an actress in a supporting role:
Penelope Cruz for "Vicky Cristina Barcelona"
I tought she would win this and she also deserves it. I was secretly hoping for Amy Adams or Marisa Tomei, because they are so loveable, but I can live with Penelope winning.

Best achievement in directing:
Danny Boyle for "Slumdog Millionaire"
Great. This isn't Boyles best film (I loved "Trainspotting"), but I think this is OK.

I really loved Hugh Jackman as a host. Especially his opening song was fantastic (The part about Benjamin Button was the best).
