Netflix Friday - Volume 101

 Some Netflix film tips for the weekend! And there is something for everyone, since I picked a movie for all the different genres.
 

Action: Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Following the Normandy Landings, a group of U.S. soldiers go behind enemy lines to retrieve a paratrooper (Matt Damon) whose brothers have been killed in action.
 

Drama: Jakob the Liar (1999)
During world War II, an ordinary inhabitant of a ghetto (Robin Williams) fakes news about the Allied offensives to inspire hope for other victims of Nazi regime.
 

Comedy: Metal Lords (2022)
Two friends (Jaeden Martell, Adrien Greensmith) try to form a heavy metal band with a cellist (Isis Hainsworth) for the Battle of the Bands.
 

Animation: Spirited Away (2001)
During her family’s move to the suburbs, a sullen 10-year-old girl wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches and spirits, and where humans are changed into beasts.
 

Romance: Their Finest (2016)
A former secretary (Gemma Arterton), newly appointed as a scriptwriter for propaganda films, joins the cast and crew of a major production while the Blitz rages around them.
 

Horror: Anatomy (2000)
A med student (Franka Potente) starts a summer course at Heidelberg University. David’s on her dissection table. She met him the day before on the train. Something’s wrong.
 

Science Fiction: Men in Black: International (2019)
The Men in Black have always protected the Earth from the scum of the universe. In this new adventure, they tackle their biggest treat to date: a mole in the Men in Black organization.
 
 

Crime: Casino (1995)
A tale of greed, deception, money, power, and a murder occur between two best friends: a mafia enforcer (Joe Pesci) and a casino executive (Robert De Niro) compete against each other over a gambling empire, and over a fast-living and fast-loving socialite (Sharon Stone).
 

Thriller: Till Death (2021)
A woman (Megan Fox) is left handcuffed to her dead husband as part of a sick revenge plot. Unable to unshackle, she has to survive as  two killers arrive to finish her off.
 

Documentary: Return to Space (2022)
Offering rare inside access to NASA and SpaceX, this is the thriller story of the nearly 20 year journey to send American astronauts back to space aboard U.S. rockets.
 

Family: Free Willy (1993)
When a boy (Jason James Richter) learns that a beloved killer whale is to be killed by the aquarium owners, they boy risks everything to free the whale.

Action: S.W.A.T. (2003)
An imprisoned drug kingpin (Olivier Martinez) offers a huge cash reward to anyone that can break him out of police custody, and only the L.A.P.D.’s Special Weapons and Tactics team can prevent it.
 

Drama: News of the World (2021)
A civiv war vetera agrees to deliver a girl (Helena Zengel), taken by the Kiowa people years ago, to her aunt and uncle, against her will. They travel hundreds of miles and face grave dangers as they search for a place that either can call home.
 

Comedy: The Dictator (2012)
The heroic story of a dictator (Sacha Baron Cohen) who risked his life to ensure that democracy would bever come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.

An alien child (Henry Cavill) is evacuated from his dying world and sent to Earth to live among humans. His peace is threatened, when other survivors of his home planet invade Earth.
 

Crime: If Beale Street Could Talks (2018)
A young woman (Kiki Layne) embraces her pregnancy while she and her family set out to prove her childhood friend and lover innocent of a crime he didn’t commit.
 

Thriller: The Debt (2012)
In 1965, three Mossad Agents (Jessica Chastain, Sam Worthington, Marton, Csokas) cross into East Berlin to apprehend a notorious Nazi war criminal. Thirty years later, the secrets the agents (Helen Mirren, Tom Wilkenson, Ciáran Hinds) share come back to haunt them.
 

Documentary: Roll Red Roll (2018)
An account of a notable sexual assault that took place in Steubenville, Ohio in 2012, and the role that social media played in the crime and on the community.
 

Family: Goosebumps (2015)
A teenager (Dylan Minetti) teams up with the daughter (Odeya Rush) of young adult horror author R.L. Stine (Jack Black) after the writer’s imaginary demons are set free on the town of Madison, Delaware.
 

Stay-at-Home Netflix Must-See Movie List

Since it’s best to stay home now, I browsed through Netflix to create a list of films they stream that everyone just has to see. Because now is the perfect time to catch up on those must-sees. I chose two movies per genre, so there is something on this list for everyone.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout (Action)
Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team, along with some familiar allies, race against time after a mission gone wrong.

Edge of Tomorrow (Action)
Cage is a soldier (Tom Cruise) fighting aliens and he gets to relive the same day over and over again, the day restarting every time he dies.

Spotlight (Drama)
The true story of how the Boston Globe uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the local Catholic Archdiocese, shaking the entire Catholic Church to its core.

Room (Drama)
Held captive for 7 years in an enclosed space, a woman (Brie Larsson) and her young son (Jacob Tremblay) finally gain their freedom, allowing the boy to experience the outside world for the first time.

Game Night (Comedy)
A group of friends who meet regularly for game nights find themselves entangled in a real-life mystery when the shady brother of one of them is seemingly kidnapped by dangerous gangsters.

Easy A (Comedy)
Olive (Emma Stone) is a clean-cut high school student who relies on the school’s rumor mill to advance her social ad financial standing.

Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse (Animation)
Teen Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) becomes Spider-Man of his reality, crossing his path with five counterparts from other dimensions to stop threat for all realities.

Call Me By Your Name (Romance)

Goodfellas (Crime)

Zodiac (Crime)
In the late 1960s/ early 1970s, a San Franciso cartoonist (Jake Gyllenhaal) becomes an amateur detective obsessed with tracking down the Zodiac killer, an unidentified individual who terrorizes Northern California with a killing spree.

Prisoners (Thriller)
When Keller Dover’s (Hugh Jackman) daughter and her friend go missing, he takes matters into his own hands as the police pursue multiple leads and the pressure mounts.

The Gift (Thriller)
A young married couple’s (Rebecca Hall, Jason Bateman) lives are thrown into a harrowing tailspin when an acquaintance from the husband’s past brings mysterious gifts and a horrifying secret to light after more than 20 years.

Fyre (Documentary)
An exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the infamous unraveling of the Fyre Music Festival.

Abducted in Plain Sight (Documentary)
The twisting, turning, stranger-than-fiction true story of the Brobergs, a naïve, church-going Idaho family that fell under the spell of a sociopathic neighbor with the designs on their twelve-year-old daughter.

Matilda (Family)
The story of the wonderful little girl Matilda (Mara Wilson), who happens to be a genius, and her wonderful teacher (Embeth Davidtz) vs. the worst parents ever (Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman) and the worst school principal imaginable.

Annie (Family)
A young orphan girl’s adventure in finding a family that will take her.

Top 5 Thursday: Movies I watched for My Challenge (May 2014)

Another great month of movies and I also watched a couple of classics. Again a tough choice, but here are my five favourites of this month.

5. The Debt

I didn’t know what to expect, but I was amazed by the strength of this film. Great acting by Jessica Chastain especially. Fantastic movie.

 

4. Neighbors

A comedy that got it right. This movie made me laugh, that’s what a lot of comedies fail to do nowadays.

 

3. Godzilla

It totally surprised me, I didn’t expect it to end up in my monthly top 5. But it deserves a spot, because it was a fantastic thrill ride!

 

2. Spirited Away

I truly got inspired by this style, I really liked the animation. And also the great story and morals behind this film.

 

1. The Great Escape

I was so glad that I finally saw this movie. It’s fantastic. I just loved how this movie was made, with action, light drama and some wit, not a very common combination for a movie set in World War II.

DVD Collection Update (15)

I got some classics, a personal favorite and some TV shows. I'm proud of all of them. And this was also an oppurtunity to show off my cute owl statue!

First I got "Spirited Away". I don't know why, but suddenly I wanted to see some Anime. I had heard so many things about this director and I decided to just pick this up. I was amazed when I watched it and also a bit ashamed that I hadn't before.

"Gran Torino" is my favorite Clint Eastwood directed film. It's not a spectacular movie in happening, but it left an impact on me. It's a fantastic film!

I haven't seen it yet, but as a movie fan you just need to see "The Great Excape". I know some of the classic scenes from the movie, but I never saw it. Looking forward to it, but I'm waiting for the perfect moment. It's a very long movie you know.

I finally got season 13, part 1 of "CSI". Here you can't buy a complete "CSI" season, it's sold in two parts. Annoying, but it does look great on my shelve.

I'm loving this show, ever since my mom accidentaly bought me a season of "Waking the Dead". I'm hoping to eventually get the entire collection. The Dvd's aren't very expensive, so I probably manage that goal.
