Netflix Friday - Volume 84

Some Netflix film tips for the weekend! And there is something for everyone, since I picked a movie for all the different genres.
 

Action: 13 Hours (2016)
During an attack on a U.S. compound in Libya, a security team struggles to make sense out of the chaos.
 

Drama: The Unforgivable (2021)
A woman (Sandra Bullock) is released from prison after serving a sentence for a violent crime and re-enters a society that refuses to forgive her past.
 

Comedy: Lady Bird (2017)
In 2002, an artistically inclined seventeen-year-old girl (Saoirse Ronan) comes of age in Sacramento, California.
 

Animation: The Polar Express (2004)
On Christmas Eve, a young boy embarks on a magical adventure to the North Pole on the Polar Express, while learning about friendship, bravery, and the spirit of Christmas.
 

Romance: The Notebook (2004)
A poor yet passionate young man (Ryan Gosling) falls in love with a rich young woman (Rachel McAdams), giving her a sense of freedom, but they are soon separated because of their social differences.
 

Horror: Crawl (2019)
A young woman (Kaya Scodelario), while attempting to save her father (Barry Pepper) during a category 5 hurricane, finds herself trapped in a flooding house and must fight for her life against alligators.
 

Science Fiction: Elysium (2013)
In the year 2154, the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth. A man (Matt Damon) takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds.
 

Crime: Jackie Brown (1997)
A flight attendant (Pam Grier) with a criminal past gets nabbed by the FBI for smuggling. Under pressure to become an informant against the drug dealer she works for, she must find a way to secure her future without getting killed.
 

Thriller: Shutter Island (2010)
In 1954, a U.S. Marshal (Leonardo DiCaprio) investigates the disappearance of s murderer who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane.  
 

Documentary: Lead Me Home (2021)
“Lead Me Home” is a short film that follows several people living on the streets in West Coast cities.

Family: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016)
The Turtles get into another battle with their enemy the Shredder, who has acquired new allies: the mutant thugs Bebop and Rocksteady and the alien being Krang.

Action: Daylight (1996)
Disaster in a New York tunnel as explosions collapse both ends of it. One hero (Sylvester Stallone) tries to help the people inside find their way to safety.

Drama: Scent of a Woman (1992)
Prep school student Charlie Simms (Chris O’Donnell) needing money agrees to ‘babysit’ the blind Frank Slade (Al Pacino), but the job is not at all what he anticipated.

Comedy: Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020)
When aspiring musicians Lars (Will Ferrell) and Sigrit (Rachel McAdams) are given the opportunity to represent their country at the world’s biggest song competition, they finally have a chance to prove that any dream worth having is a dream worth fighting for.

Animation: Curious George (2006)
The man in the Yellow Hat (Will Ferrell) is and oddball museum employee who looks after his pet monkey (Frank Welker), an inquisitive and wonderful creature whose enthusiasm often gets the best of him.

Crime: The Hateful Eight (2015)
In the dead of a Wyoming winter, a bounty hunter (Kurt Russell) and his prisoner (Jennifer Jason Leigh) find shelter in a cabin currently inhabited by a collection of nefarious characters.

Thriller: Miss Sloane (2016)
In the high-staked world of political power-brokers, Elizabeth Sloane (Jessica Chastain) is the most sought after and formidable lobbyist in D.C. But when taking on the most powerful opponent of her career, she finds winning may come at too high a price.

Documentary: Athlete A (2020)
Follow the Indianapolis Star reporters that broke the story about USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar’s abuse and hear from gymnasts like Maggie Nichols.

Family: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
Charlie Bucket (Freddie Highmore) wins a tour through the most magnificent chocolate factory in the world, led by the world’s most unusual candy maker: Willy Wonka (Johnny Depp)

Top 5 Thursday: Ryan Gosling Movies

Ryan Gosling is one fine actor. Not just because he is ridiculously gorgeous, but because he is a fantastic, talented performer. He chooses his roles very carefully and that leads to some wonderful films. Here are my favorites.

5. The Notebook
I think everyone wanted to marry Noah Calhoun after seeing this movie. I know I did. This movie is so sweet it hurts your teeth, but I love it.

4. Half Nelson
He is a bit troubled, but I like his role as a teacher. He is a better teacher then person, I like the friendship between him and Drew.

3. Crazy, Stupid, Love
A movie I knew I was going to love when I saw its trailer. Gosling and Steve Carrel are great together and what about Ryan and Emma Stone!

2. Blue Valentine
Not just another lovestory. Far from that. Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling have perfect chemistry which makes it believable and realistic.

1. Drive
LOVE IT! Gosling rocks this movie. It’s brilliant, I mean really brilliant. Love the cinematography, music, acting. It blew my mind when I first saw it.

Top 5 Thursday: Rachel McAdams Movies

Rachel McAdams is one of my favorites and I saw her for the first time in “Wedding Crashers”. I decided to watch more movies of her and she totally stole my heart, every single time. So here are my five favorite movies of her (still have to see “To the Wonder”).

5. The Time Traveler’s Wife
I love the book more, but this movie really is amazing. And Rachel does a fantastic job as Clare.

4. Sherlock Holmes
I loved this movie the first time I saw it. I liked the second one too, but this a little better. I’m a fan of Sherlock Holmes, the character and the books, so I’m critical. This turned out fine and I love it.

3. Red Eye
Such a scary movie, on the edge of you seat exciting! And every time I watch it it’s just as thrilling.

2. The Notebook
Definitely one of the most romantic stories ever told. What a wonderful film. Such perfect chemistry Rachel and Ryan have.

1. Midnight in Paris
This has become one of my favorite films over the years. I’m actually in love with this movie. Not so much Rachel’s character, because Inez is a horrible person, but this movie is just fantastic. People who’ve seen it know what I mean.

Top 5 Thursday: Movie Character I Would Date

Off course there are some handsome actors I would date. But do you really know him? In a movie, you really get to know a character, so I made a list of movie characters I would date.

5. Mr. Darcy from “Pride & Prejudice”
This man should be on every womans list. Secretly we all dream of our own Mr.Darcy, a man with manners and respect for women.

4. Indiana Jones from “Raiders of the Lost Ark”
Off course! I love Indy, because he so adventurous and has a great sense of humour. How great would it be to go on a vacation with Indiana Jones?

3. Rob Gordon from “High Fidelity”
I know he's a bit of a douche sometimes, because certain relationship problems he didn't handle very well. But we have a lot in common. He has a passion for music and movies and he loves making lists. Well, I'm a sucker for that!

2. Tom Hannon from “(500) Days of Summer”
Tom is a very kind man, someone who enjoys the little things in life and finds beauty in the strangest places. I think I should be lucky to have him as my guy.

1. Noah Calhoun from “The Notebook”
Just like Allie, I think after meeting him I couldn't really think of any other man. He's practically perfect.

Top 5 Thursday: Rain Scenes in Movies

A new year, new top fives. Here's the first of the year. Because it's raining almost constantly right now, I decided to share with you my favorite rain scenes in movies.

5. Singin' in the Rain
This has to be on the list. The moment where Gene Kelly literally starts to sing in the rain. Even for a non musical lover it's a classic scene.

4. V for Vendetta
De scene where Evy stands on the rooftop of a building, spreads her arms and starts crying. beautiful scene.

3. The Notebook
We all know this scene. Allie and Noah just took a boat ride when Allie asks him why he never wrote her back, because it wasn't over for her. Noah tells her he wrote her a letter every day for a year. Than they kiss each other in the poring rain. Probably also the most romantic scene ever.

2. Jurassic Park
T-Rex escapes from his facility and two of the tour-cars are standing still in front of his cage. He starts to investigates the cars and when Lex and Tim turn on the flashlights they draw T-Rex' attention. This scene is so exciting, the rain makes it even more scary.

1. The Shawshank Redemption
After Andy Dufresne crawled through a sewer, he takes of his shirt, spreads his arms an just stands in the rain. Finally, freedom! This is a classic scene and it gives me goosebumps everytime.

They almost made the top 5: "Spider-Man", "Road to Perdition", "Platoon", "Seven" and "Identity"

Movie Moments: "The Notebook"

"The Notebook" is one of the best lovestories ever told. The book is great, so great I reread it this year. The movie is also beautiful and I have my favorite moments. Here they are.

Moment # 1: The carnival
Noah meets Allie for the first time. He falls for her right away. When he asks her to dance Allie says no but Noah doesn’t take no for an answer. When she’s in the ferris wheel with another guy, Noah jumps on the ride. He asks her to go out with him, while hanging on a bar with only one hand. His hand is slipping away so she agrees on going out with him. As a payback, Allie pulls down Noah’s pants while he’s still hanging on to the bar.

Moment # 2: Traffic lights
Noah tells Allie he used to watch the traffic lights change with his father, while lying on the street. Allie joins him and tells her about her passion: painting. Than Noah asks her to dance, in the middle of the road with no music playing.

Moment # 3: Allie meets Noah’s father
Allie visits Noah and she meets his father Frank. He likes her right away. Allie gives him a present, a painting she made herself. They start talking about poetry and Frank invities her for breakfast.

Moment # 4: “Say I’m a bird”
Allie and Noah are at the beach and she asks him if she could be a bird in another life. Noah tells her yes, but if she’s a bird, so is he.

Moment # 5: Windsor Plantation
Noah takes Allie to the Windsor Plantation. He tells her he wants to fix it up someday. Allie would want a white house, with blue shutters, a room overlooking the river so she can paint and a porch surrounding the house. While Allie starts playing the piano, they start kissing and want to have sex. They get naked, but decide to not go trough with it.

Moment # 6: Geese
Noah wants to take Allie somewhere to show her something. He takes her rowing and the place they visit is filled with geese. While sitting in the boat, Allie tells Noah he’s different, but also the same. When Noah and Allie are heading back, it starts to rain and all they can do is laugh,

Moment # 7: The kiss
Allie asks Noah why he never wrote her, because for her it wasn’t over. He tells her he wrote her one letter every day for a year and that it wasn’t over for him either. And it still isn’t. Than they kiss.

Moment # 8: Allie paints again
After staying with Noah for the night, Allie discovers a room overlooking the river, like she always wanted. She starts painting again, after a very long time.

Moment # 9: Allie makes her choice.
Lon is in town and knows about Noah. Allie has to make a decision, who she’s going to be with. She chooses Noah.

Moment 10: Allie remembers
Noah aka Duke has diner with Allie. She wants to know how the story ends. Than suddenly she remembers. The story was about them and she call him Noah. Unfortunately the moments doesn’t last long, because she soon mistakens him for a complete stranger again.

Favorite moment: Moment # 7: The kiss
